On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, Rotary members, community leaders, and Rotary District 5950 Governor Lloyd Campbell gathered at Westwood Hills Nature Center in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, for the official signing of the Operation Pollination Pollinator Resolution. The resolution expresses our Rotary district’s willingness to engage in pollinator habitat restoration and education activities. The Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub hosted the event.

“The resolution expresses our intention to engage in pollinator habitat restoration and education activities through the 65 Rotary clubs serving central, western, and Minneapolis, MN,” said Steve Solbrack, District 5950 Environment Action Team Chair and Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub Membership Director. “This is just one example of Rotary’s commitment to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment.”
Six clubs in District 5950 had previously signed the pollinator pledge - Eagan Kick-Start, Eden Prairie, Golden Valley, Litchfield, Maple Grove, and Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub. These clubs have committed to annual service and education opportunities to impact pollinator habitat to increase pollinator species.

In 2020, Rotary International named Protecting the Environment as one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. The Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub was chartered 3.5 years ago, becoming the 4th non-traditional, cause-based Rotary club in the world. There are now over 30 Rotary clubs in the world with a focus on the environment. Starting new, non-traditional, cause-based Rotary clubs is now a significant initiative worldwide for membership growth in Rotary.
