Wellness Walk, Sunday 16 November 2104

Fellow Rotarians across Sydney.

Despite still being a ‘taboo’ subject, mental illness affects one in five Australians at some time in their lives.

We need to bring it in from the dark – building community awareness, improving recovery methods, and most important, getting rid of the awful stigma that still haunts its sufferers.

This where as a Fellow Rotarian I’d like to give you an opportunity to help out.

I’m the Chairman of the Committee responsible for organizing the second annual Wellness Walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, from 10.00am on Sunday November 16.

The purpose of this walk is to celebrate ‘wellness’; to raise funds for the Sunflower Foundation, the umbrella organization for mental health; and through it, to assist with vital programs supporting mental health improvement.

The good news is I’m not looking for your money (!)

Instead, I’m offering you a chance to do something constructive while also having fun:

  • Promoting the Wellness Walk within your Club (flyer attached)
  • Organising and registering a Club Team (www.wellnesswalk.org.au)
  • Getting your team members to recruit their own sponsors (same website – just follow the links)
  • Diarizing Sunday 16 November as a Major Social Event for your Club

Nothing could be more inspiring on a sunny Sunday morning than a casual 5km stroll with your team from Circular Quay, across our iconic Harbour Bridge, and back to the start point through The Rocks. There’ll be post-walk entertainment, and so much more to do around The Rocks afterwards that you’ll be assured of a great morning out.

As Fellow Rotarians we’re all committed to ‘Service Above Self’. Internationally we’re trying to “End Polio Now”. By supporting the Wellness Walk you’ll be helping out just as effectively in our own home town, too!
