A New Rotary Satellite Club with a Powerful Purpose
The Rotary Club of Briarcliff Manor has long been a strong supporter of The Cookstove Project (CSP). cookstoveproject.org 
That relationship runs deep: three members of the Briarcliff Manor Rotary Club currently serve on The Cookstove Project's Board of Directors. That connection helped inspire the formation of a cause-based Rotary Satellite Club dedicated to advocating for and supporting the work of The Cookstove Project. Briarcliff Rotarian Jeff Cadge a Cookstove Project board member brought the idea of a satellite club to the board and other supporters based around the country—people who believed strongly in CSP's mission.

Impact Tour Districts 6290, 6310, 6360, 6380, 6400
Impact Tour Districts 6290, 6310, 6360, 6380, 6400 August 14, 2026 RI Director Marty Helman spent 13 days on the third leg of her Impact Tour visiting five districts in Michigan, three which are international districts with clubs in both Michigan and Ontario. Her route ran from Windsor and Chatham, Ontario, through the Michigan cities of Plymouth, Lansing, Midland, Kalamazoo, South Haven, Muskegon and Traverse City.

Message of Impact and Peace
Rotary International Director Marty Helman kicked off a whirlwind visit to District 6400 with a luncheon hosted by the Rotary Club of Plymouth at the Plymouth Cultural Center. Eighty-five Rotarians packed the room, including many visitors from clubs across the district, eager to hear from an RI Director.

Marty Helman Impact Tour Visit to D5370 – Edmonton
District 5370 was excited to welcome our RI Director Marty Peak Helman for her first tour stop on Canada Day.  We started our day with breakfast at the iconic Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, Alberta, where, shortly after, we made our way to Edmonton City Hall, as our team, led by Ingrid Neitsch, made an announcement that Edmonton was designated as the 474th International City of Peace.   There was a group of 150 people to witness the event, with speeches from Marty, PDG Ingrid Neitsch, DG Jeanette Bancarz, the Mayor of Edmonton and the City Police Chief. 
 
Overall, a great event in a lovely space, and we even had a segment on the local evening news!

New Rotary Clubs Chartered June-July 2026
Three new clubs were chartered across our two Zones in June, and one more in July.

The new clubs are:
  • Beacon RC, in New York, D7210
  • Calgary Pan African Collective RC, in Alberta, D5360
  • Bangladeshi Americans RC, in New York, D7255
  • Mohkinstsis Urban Indigenous RC, Alberta, D5360
Congratulations to District 7210 and 7255, both in New York, and a huge shout-out to District 5360 in Alberta, which has chartered two new clubs in as many months. Wow!

As the names of the new clubs suggest, we are gaining members through new clubs that are reaching out to specific ethnic groups and and special-interest areas.

Impact Tour Districts 5040, 5050 and 5060
Director Marty Helman headed further out west for the second leg of the Impact Tour where she shook hands and shucked corn. 
 
After opening the Impact Tour in Alberta, Marty traveled to the western-most areas of Zones 28 & 32 and made her first two countries visit to British Columbia, Canada and Washington State, USA.

The tour started on Friday evening in District 5050 with a Rotary Foundation barbeque organized by Past Director and Vice President, Dean Rohrs, with E/MGA Carol Tichelman. Marty personally thanked the attendees for their support of our Foundation and shared stories of the impact that their giving makes for people and communities at ome and around the world.

A Vision Years in the Making: Building an Indigenous Rotary Club in Alberta
For Métis Elder Art Cunningham, the idea of an Indigenous Rotary Club has been decades in the making. Today, with the support of 23 newly engaged Rotary members, the recently established chapter is turning that vision into reality.

Cunningham’s connection to Rotary began in the mid-1990s, when he was honoured with a Paul Harris Award by a Rotary Club in Calgary for his work with Children and Family Services. At the time, he viewed the award as recognition for his past contributions. However, an Elder in his life offered a different perspective.

“He told me that receiving an honour like that meant I now had a responsibility,” Cunningham recalls. “I had to honour the award by continuing the work.”

Meet The World’s Longest Tenured Rotarian
Ian Evans was 24 years old and setting up his practice as an ophthalmologist in Prince George, BC, when he joined Rotary to meet people and get to know the community better. All that took place in the early ‘50s—Ian celebrated 75 years as a Rotarian last winter and is currently celebrating his 100th birthday!

Most of your Public Image marketing is being excluded from one billion people (1,000,000,000), or 15% of the world’s population. People with various disabilities are not able to ‘see’ your marketing, your website, your newsletters, and more.
 
The strategic goal of your club’s Public Image should be to enhance the public’s image of your Rotary Club, service projects, fundraisers, and community activities. And most clubs accomplish this with press releases, websites, and social media. Yet, most of this effort excludes those with disabilities.

Empowering Girls Youth Leadership Program

Empowered girls become empowered women and empowered women change the world.  One of the key initiatives for the Empowering Girls Ambassadors in Rotary Zones 28 & 32 was hosting two pilot Empowering Girls Youth Leadership Programs in collaboration with Toastmasters District 123 and District 46. Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. In May 2019, Rotary and Toastmasters formed an alliance and this Empowering Girls Youth Leadership Program (YLP) was a great way to strengthen and promote this alliance.
