Rotary Club of The Hudson Valley’s Public Health Initiative is a landmark development in one of the most serious challenges of our times - access to preventative health care.  This Initiative tests women for early detection of breast cancer lesions with an innovative device, the iBreastExam: no drugs, no pain, no surgery, no radiation, and gives results in minutes on a Smartphone.  The Initiative could significantly enhance public awareness of the scourge of breast cancer, make a tremendous contribution to public health, and enhance Rotary's Public Image.

The iBreastExam is an FDA-cleared wireless handheld device which can detect tumor tissue using new tactile sensing technology instantaneously, without pain, surgery, or radiation.   It has been the subject of much media coverage such as Vogue, BBC, and New York Times, and is highly acclaimed by the WHO, breast cancer surgeons, and many other experts in the field.  Indeed, it’s been lauded as a “Thought Leader” by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUY9jR7BPDg

In this ongoing Initiative, the Hudson Valley Rotary Club has already conducted 9 outreach camps and testing about 200 women for breast cancer lumps/lesions.  “I don't know how many lives we saved, but I do know that it's a phenomenal peace of mind for most of them,” said PDG Krishan Chittur, the organizer of the Initiative. Many of patients were overjoyed.  One woman who was tested was in tears: she had felt something wrong with her breast but didn't have insurance and could not see a physician. She was THRILLED that Rotary gave her this opportunity; with the negative result that she got from the test; she probably had the happiest day of her life in a LONG time. She could not stop saying a tearful "Thank you" to Rotary repeatedly.   And that’s just one illustration.

The Hudson Valley Rotary has received inquiries from many people in other parts of the country inquiring about where they could get tested.  In the true spirit of Rotary - we learn from, and help, each other - the Hudson Valley Rotary has generously offered to help any Club which is seriously interested in organizing this project in their area.  The Club is now working with one of the biggest NY hospitals for organizing a similar outreach.

This Initiative significantly advances Rotary ideals - People of Action, Service Above Self in the core area of Disease Prevention and Cure.  Video hyperlink:
