Education - Our Most Powerful Tool to Create Positive Peace

In an effort to create a more peaceful and just world, peace literacy equips us with the tools to build strong communities, peacefully confront root causes of problems, navigate change and uncertainty, teach responsible digital citizenship with the end goal of creating peace that is resilient and sustainable allowing us to thrive as human beings.
 
Building on West Point's world class leadership training and disciplined version of civil right's leaders, peace literacy educates people to be as well trained in waging peace as soldiers are in waging war. 
Under the leadership of Paul K Chappell, Founder and Executive Director, Peace Literacy Institute, curriculum units have been created by a team of educators as a public service in order to make peace literacy available for all. There are also workshops available for educators, a leadership series for continued leadership development as well as platforms for AI (artificial intelligence) moving forward into virtual reality as a learning tool. 
 
On behalf of Paul K Chappell, and the team at the Peace Literacy Institute, we would like to say how excited we are to work with Rotary District 5550 and World Peace Partners to launch Peace Literacy Canada under the direction of National Chair Tamara Larson. 
Working with Rotary youth programs, school boards, educators, educational institutions, and systems, we can create a peaceful and just world for all.

"I believe that peace literacy for each Rotarian begins when one accepts that "all concerned" in the 4-Way Test and "neighbour" in "love thy neighbour" is interpreted by that Rotarian to mean everyone, everywhere, seven generations ahead and sentient and non-sentient beings. Then one can be open to understanding that the basic cravings of all human beings are the same and that humans and all other beings are interconnected and interdependent for survival. The understanding that follows from peace literacy education then makes clear what to nurture in humans so that we humans learn the skills and disciplines, attitudes, and practices of how to get along and live in ways that will not only sustain life on planet earth, but nurture human potential, create cultures of peace and communities where everyone can experience peace within and beyond ourselves."
