Dear Zone 28/32 Governors, Elects, Nominees and Partners:

First, we want to thank you each of you for your patience while we pivot from planning our Toronto Training Summit next September to re-conceptualize it as an online learning experience.  That planning is continuing; please set aside these dates for the training... you can click on the menu links on the left side of this page for more details about the online conference.

September 23-25 – the dates that we had planned to be together in Toronto – will be the dates for the Plenary Sessions of our GETS/GNATS online training.  Please plan on an online session each of those days, set to begin at 7:00 ET/4:00 PT and to last for about 90 minutes or so.

The link to these Plenary Sessions will be made available so that all Zone Rotarians will have the opportunity to join in, if they so choose.

Additionally, each Governor class and spouses will meet individually via Zoom with your facilitators to cover the core curriculum and also to get to know one another better and schmooze. We will use Zoom’s breakout rooms so that the size of each session is intimate. Those sessions and facilitators are:

  • Governors-elect (year group 2021-22):
    • Five Thursdays, September 3, 10, 17, October 1, 8; 7:00 ET/4:00 PT for approximately 90 minutes.
    • Facilitators: Una Martone (District 7390) and Nabil Oudeh (District 7040).

  • Governors-nominee (year group 2022-23):
    • Same schedule as Governors-elect:Five Thursdays, September 3, 10, 17, October 1, 8; 7:00 ET/4:00 PT for approximately 90 minutes.
    • Facilitators: Rod Thomson (District 5050) and Paddy Rooney (District 7390).

  • Governors (year group 2020-21):
    • Four Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15, 29; 7:00 ET/4:00 PT for approximately 90 minutes.
    • Facilitators: Peter Schultz (District 5060) and Tracey Vavrek (District 5370).

  • All Rotarians and Rotaractors:
    • The Summit will take place over three nights: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Sept 23-24-25; 7:00 ET/4:00 PT for approximately 90 minutes each evening.

  • Partners of all year groups:
      • Mondays 7pm-8:30pm
8/31     DGN partners  on their own with Facilitator Vicki Kessler
DGE partners on their own with Facilitators Bruce and Sue Goldsen

9/14     DGN and DGE partners together with Facilitators

9/21     DGN and DGE partners together with Facilitators

      • 9/21     DG partners only

DG partners just one session 9/21

Prior to these training sessions, please plan on additional prep homework and get-to-know-you schmooze time, as organized by your facilitators.

That’s a lot to take in. Whew! What happens next?

Registration will re-commence on this website in July  – you will receive notice when it is time to sign up.   There will be a $50 registration fee for the training.  That’s $50 in the currency of your country and the same cost whether or not your partner plans to attend, and yes, it’s money your District had budgeted to spend in Toronto.  Virtual training is (almost) at no cost, but because we have never done this and are learning as we go, we think it prudent to build a small financial umbrella in case of unexpected expenses.  Any unspent registration funds will be donated to PolioPlus.

Had we met in Toronto, we would have offered Master Classes so that all Rotarians would have the chance to do Rotary, not just talk about Rotary.  At least one of those opportunities – to build an understanding of Positive Peace – will be offered by the Zone virtually by PDGs Ann Lee Hussey and Chris Offer later on in the fall.  Peace is needed more than ever in this world of ours, and so the good news is that because it won’t be planned in conjunction with GETS/GNATS, members of the governor chain can join in on the learning if they so choose.  Stay tuned for more about that opportunity and registration details as plans gel.

We are jazzed to be hosting the first-ever virtual GETS/GNATS! The Rotary that you have the good fortune to lead is a pivoting Rotary unmoored from geographic constraints.  While we need to hone ways for Rotary to Open Opportunities in this new environment, we are excited by the possibilities and hope you are as well!

Stay safe – and continue to connect through Rotary!
