Special guest Tim Wilson is a young member of the House of Representatives and a former Human Rights Commissioner. His new book, The New Social Contract, outlines his vision for Australian liberalism. He argues that politics needs to better serve Australians of all ages. Tim looks at Australia’s changing demography and its impact on voting behaviour. It’s now more difficult than ever for 18–35 year olds to afford their own home. He contrasts this with the level of capital held by older Australians. This is leading to a tension between the generations that will only increase in a post-COVID economic crisis. Home ownership is the best way to enable younger people to develop a stake in their own future and the future of the country. Tim believes that the liberal political philosophy can achieve the balance required to build Australia’s future prosperity.
