CNC Rotary Foundation Bladder Cancer Walk

On October 7th, 2018 Central Nassau County Rotary Club and its Foundation will be organizing a Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk at the Tanglewood preserve in Rockville Centre NY. Registration will begin at 9:00 AM and a gentle walk on the trails of the Preserve will start at 10:00 AM and end at 12:00 PM

The purpose of this event is to increase bladder cancer awareness, support those living with this disease, and raise funds to find a cure. One in 42 people will be diagnosed with bladder cancer during their lifetime. Although bladder cancer is a common cancer, it has been vastly ignored. We need to raise awareness and find a cure now!

We would love to have you join us as a sponsor/walker. You will have the opportunity to engage a community of dedicated supporters, survivors, volunteers and medical professionals. And, to demonstrate your commitment to impact the lives of those living with bladder cancer, raise awareness, hence improve recognition of symptoms that can lead to early treatment.

About Central Nassau County Rotary and its Foundation:

The Rotary Club is part of an International Service and Charity organization. It is dedicated to promoting friendship and peace and to help those less fortunate. CNCR Foundation is involved in projects that benefit the community, and the World. Last year, the Foundation raised over $50,000 in the first Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk and raised over $30,000 for storm relief for Puerto Rican Children. In coordination with NFL Commisisoner, Mr. Roger Goodell,  the Foundation helped a School in Haiti connect to the internet and helped dozens of local charities and organizations. The Foundation and the Rotary Club have no administrative or fund raising expenses. Rotarians are all non-compensated volunteers.

Bladder Cancer, Know the Facts:

This event is to support research and advocacy for a cancer which is the 5th MOST COMMONLY DIAGNOSED CANCER in the United States and the fourth most common among Men, Veterans and even more common with fire fighters. It is the 6th most common among Women, who are more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer later and have a worse prognosis than men at almost every stage of the disease. In 2017, nearly 75,000 people were newly diagnosed and 16,000 died from the disease.There are over half a million diagnosed with bladder cancer living in the US.

Bladder Cancer is one of the most expensive cancers to diagnose, treat and monitor (it must be monitored since recurrence is high). It is one of the least funded cancers for research.

We hope that you will join with us in the important mission to increase public awareness about bladder cancer, advance bladder cancer research, and provide educational and support services for the bladder cancer community. Your help for an underfunded disease and an overlooked population of cancer victims is invited and appreciated. Please consider getting involved. Funds generated by this walk will be contributed to organizations dedicated to this underfunded yet very prolific cancer.
