News of interest to Rotarians from around the district. This edition is off-normal in appearance due to our regular publisher Ken being unavailable this month.
I have now visited virtually every club in the District (1 to go!) and am moving on to other Governor activities. We had 3 very successful R.L.I. (Rotary Learning Institute) sessions this autumn, and I had the pleasure of working at 2 of them. Congratulations to all who participated and thank you to the facilitators and trainers that helped make the weekends a success!
Last weekend I attended the gala fundraising event for the Okanagan-Omak Rotary Club: Their "Wine & Cheese Tasting Benefit and Auction". This is the 21st year in a row for this great event (photo below) and they had to cap ticket sales at just over 600 participants. They will have grossed over $100,000 for their community projects in one evening! You can see their event & story in the video HERE .
The BIG NEWS is that we are just about to start promoting and registering Club Members for our new "Club Spring Training Experience" (CSTE)! This new approach for our District should offer a full-spectrum training for Club officers (and other leaders) that we have not seen for many years. Watch for an e-mail from DGE Richard DeRock to come shortly with your invitation to register, and a link to a video yet to be produced describing the event. More information about our new CSTE for 2020 is at the District website under the "Training" tab.
Conference 2020: We will start promoting this amazing opportunity regularly now, so PLEASE get registered soon!!
It helps us to organize the event if we have the registrations in earlier than the usual "last minute" we Rotarians prefer! The 5 keynote speakers that have agreed to join us are all world-class, several who have spoken for the huge Rotary International Conventions in the past. Watch your email for speaker profiles, last week featuring the internationally acclaimed author and corporate trainer Michael Angelo Caruso (pictured). Michael will be offering his training program "Present Like a Pro" as an optional pre-conference session on Friday morning (24 April), which many of you may want to take in! Watch Michael's video introducing himself HERE.
And finally for this month, here is an opportunity for "young adults" from one of our Rotarian colleagues in India. If you or somebody you know would like to experience India, please check this out (registration soon so don't delay!
The NGSE Team of RID 3142 is organizing a 20-days camp for young Adults in Western India. This includes a tour of Mumbai, the commercial capital of India and its neighbourhood, coupled with an amazing two weeks of colourful Handicraft and Folk Art learning directly from the Master Artisans, in the land of the Sand dunes in Gujarat. To add to this is the experience of local countryside life. We invite young Adults from your District to come join this exciting Camp. Click HERE to view the flyer together with a Brochure of this Camp with lots of information and captivating colorful photos.

DISTRICT GRANTS FOR 2020-2021
District 5060 is accepting applications for District Grants for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Not to be confused with Global Grants, everything you need to know about District Grants can be accessed on the D5060 website under Grants.
Clubs are strongly encouraged to start by reviewing the document “Easy Path To A District Grant”. Doing so will help save time and effort, and assure you are applying for a project that can be funded.
Additionally, please note clubs in D5060 no longer have to complete and pass the online Grants Management Seminar when applying for a District Grant.
If you have questions, please email David CampbellHERE.

BRINGING CLEAN WATER TO HAITI
PDG Sherry Chamberlain reports that the District Haiti HANWASH committee has been busy giving presentations to many clubs about the HANWASH project our district will support for the area of Ferrier in Haiti. To date we have at least 8 clubs on board as supporters, with many more interested. If your club has not yet had a presentation scheduled, please contact the committee!
We are very excited to say we have over $22,000 in pledges which we hope to have deposited in the Wenatchee Rotary account by the end of this month, to be ready to pay for the initial engineering study. Additional funds will be used for the actual project funding. READ THE FULL REPORT.

Do you speak English, Francois, y Espanol?
The Wenatchee Rotary Club is looking for a Canadian partner, and their club, to partner with, in travel to Milot Haiti and to share expenses in maintaining a water well ($10,000 total to be divided) with the ultimate goal of transferring ownership to local control. We have a District grant application submitted to assist in travel expenses to Milot, Haiti. We are specifically looking for someone who speaks English, French and a bonus if you speak Spanish, too. Additional Canadian and U.S club welcome. Please contact Bill Murray: murrays@nwi.net and t/c 509-679-5919. View project history HERE.
On November 12, PDG Sherry Chamberlain visited the Milot site, meeting with our local representative Keslyn. Read her brief report (with photos) HERE.

MEMBERSHIP TIDBIT
A new Rotarian typically joins Rotary after having been invited as a guest to a Rotary club meeting, fundraiser, volunteer event and/or social event. It is less typical for someone interested in Rotary to initiate that first contact. How does this happen and should we act quickly to invite that person as a guest to our Rotary club? I will tell you how this happens and why it is so vitally important to invite that person as a guest as soon as possible.
Rotary International (“RI”) receives inquiries from persons interested in Rotary. RI in turn will forward that information to our District Governor, all Assistant Governors and to me as your District Membership Chair. It is my responsibility to make sure that the information for these new member leads is conveyed to the appropriate Rotary club membership chairs and club presidents.
These new member leads represent persons who took the time and made the effort to contact Rotary because they are interested in our organization. Inviting them as guests to our Rotary club(s) couldn’t be any easier! We know ahead of time that they are interested in Rotary and we need to contact them when their interest in Rotary is the greatest.
My request is simple. If you receive a phone call or an email from me concerning a new member lead, please do the following:
Please pick up the phone and call that person as soon as possible. A phone call is so much more impactful than sending an email; and
Please keep me informed. I want to share in your successes in transforming the new member leads into new members for your club.
If you have any questions concerning these new member leads, please contact me or a member of our district membership committee.
