Photo: Jarra Underwood, County Auditor, pictured with Jason Groh. Jarra Underwood sure brought some fun and excitement to her Rotary presentation on Tuesday October 3rd. Not only did she bring some fun facts and information on Wayne County, but she gave all the Rotarians a quick "pop quiz" on some random facts. For example, "how many feet are in a mile?" she asked, with a quick answer from Rotarian Sue Corfman, "5,280", to which she was awarded a tape measure for her knowledge!
Jarra is the Auditor for Wayne County, Ohio, and has been for almost seven terms. Each year she has worked hard to serve the county and has done a lot of wonderful things for our sales and neighborhoods. One of the statistics she shared is that in three years, the following areas have increased growth along with their prospective percentages: Paint Township (52.32%), Applecreek (49.93%), and Orrville (35.70%). Every three years we go through a Triennial Update which is a reappraisal of properties. This is done residentially as well as for our agricultural land. We are currently finishing up the 2023 Triennial Update and we have approximate values soon. Based on the 2022 sales prices, an average price for a home was about $221,163 which was a 37% increase from the values in 2020.
One of the really neat things about our county auditor is that she assists in the operation of a fantastic website. One more interesting fact Jarra shared about our county is that about 76% of Wayne County dirt is farmland. She finished off her presentation with this quote by Ronald Reagan "When we honor our flag we honor what we stand for as a nation - freedom, equality, justice, and hope." as a small token of her gratitude to our Rotary Flag Project.
