Orrville Rotary Club heard a very informative presentation on EMDR Therapy from Nicole Holman, EMDR trained therapist with Honey Bee Counseling. Nicole received her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron in Psychology and graduated with her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She founded her business, Honey Bee Counseling, in June of 2022 in Wooster, Ohio because she wanted a better way to care for her clients and the freedom to give them the best treatment options. They are housed at 146 E Liberty St. Suite 60 in Wooster!
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is a mental health therapy method. It can help treat mental health conditions that happen because of memories from traumatic events in your past. The basic of the therapy is that the therapist creates bilateral stimulation so that the brain can alternate between the left and right hemispheres; this stops the brain's stress response while remembering the memory so that the brain can process through it to heal. This type of therapy is not recommended for everyone, and can have negative affects on people who suffer from traumatic brain injuries.
Nicole is trained to provide EMDR therapy and has done so for many different types of situations and people. From individuals in the fire departments and police departments, to victims who have survived domestic violence or some form of trauma.
