Josh Hunt, Senior Agent from Medway Sometimes Orrville Rotarians have fun at meetings, and sometimes they share facts! Before Christmas every year Rotarians do an annual White Elephant Gift Exchange where all shapes and sizes of gifts arrive. Some are pure fun and games, others are from cleaning out household items. This years exchange on December 20th saw the 90’s bubble blowing machine, golf balls, slippers, used mugs, and more. All a good laugh and to let off steam before the rush of the season.
Although the fun times are a great way to end the year, Rotary is quick to get back into the swing of things with our informative weekly meetings. On January 4th, 2023 Josh Hunt shared an update with the club on Medway. Josh is a senior agent with Medway Drug Enforcement Agency here in Wayne County. He has been in law enforcement since 1997 and previously worked and lived here in Orrville. He has always been passionate about substance abuse issues and being part of the solution which led him to his position at Medway in 2013.
Medway was formed in 1974 between Wayne and Medina Counties to combat drug problems. It is financially supported by levy’s and is one of the very few agencies created and run with their own officers whose job is solely devoted to combat drugs in our county. Some of the main drugs they see today are Heroin/Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and Cocaine. Also, one of the biggest issues they are seeing is vaping in the school system. Medway also works directly with Wayne County Drug Endangered Children and Children Protective Services whenever they are dealing with situations involving drugs to make sure youth in our community are getting the best care and safety possible.
