The Orrville Rotary Club met on Tuesday, September 20th for a lunch meeting and picnic in the Orr Park. The guest speakers were Gayle Byrne, community response outreach coordinator, and Crystin Troyer, victim advocate and outreach specialist. OneEighty will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2024 and has much to celebrate after completing their mission to help people change direction in our community. In 2016, the well-known community service agencies Steps at Liberty Center and Every Woman’s House rebranded to become known as OneEighty. The agencies merged in 2006 and have grown substantially since they were formed in 1974 and 1979. Today OneEighty is a dynamic integrated healthcare organization. Gayle provided an overview of the OneEighty organization and summarized the different programs. Some of the focus areas include domestic violence and rape crisis center services, substance use and addiction services, mental health services, housing and supportive services, and community relations and prevention.
Crystin focused on the victim advocacy side of the presentation. She explained how OneEighty provides victim advocacy supportive services for intimate partner violence or domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and/or sexual violence including sex trafficking. This is done through safety planning in partnership with the police, support education, referrals, and outreach services. The outreach includes underserved populations, universities and colleges, community organizations and groups, or rural communities.
