At recent Club meetings, we’ve had a enjoyable mix of non-Rotarians joining our weekly lunches in our guest speaker program.

Marie Coderre, executive and artistic director for the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC), provided the club with an update on how the centre has fared during the pandemic.

It was a struggle at first, she said, but eventually methods were found to bring the arts to the people in a safe way — including outdoor buskers on a trail and online shows.

The centre did take a financial hit and she is looking forward to the day when NACC can get back to her regular territory-wide performance schedule.

Marie was introduced by Chris Williams and presented with the Club's traditional thank-you gift of a mug by David Connelly.

The Club was also provided with an update on Joint Task Force North and the 440 Transport Squadron by Major Jeff Lee. The Squadron operates four of the rugged Canadian-designed and produced CC-138 Twin Otters, the yellow aircraft which you often seen flying around the city.

A major training operation had to be downsized and moved from the high Arctic this year in March due to the pandemic, and held in a “bubble” outside Yellowknife.

The JTFN helps Canada maintain sovereignty over the North and also engages in search and rescue operations and other patrols.

Andrew and Keven from 100.1 True North FM dropped into our monthly off-site meeting in the basement at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church. The Club teams up with the station — formerly known at Moose FM — each year for the Rotary Radio Day fundraiser.

President-elect Celestino Oh, who co-ordinated this year's Radio Day, and Rotarian Brian George joined the radio dudes for a photo.

And finally, just this week Scott Robertson from Covid task force

Scott Robertson, the executive co-lead for the GNWT’s COVID-19 response, visited the Club and brought one of the refrigerated carrying cases used for the Moderna mRNA vaccine.

As of April 29, across the NWT there are 25,857 people who have received one dose, with 20,943 being fully vaccinated with two doses.
