It's time to dream up an entry for this year's Rotary Community Parade on Canada Day. Last year's return after a two-year absence was a huge success, with several dozen entries and appreciative crowds of all ages standing three and four deep along the route.

Registration is now open for community groups, non-profits, cultural and Indigenous organizations, classic car owners and anyone who wants to participate in a fun way to help our community enjoy some family oriented entertainment.

Please email rotary.yellowknife@gmail.com or visit rotaryclubofyellowknife.ca to provide entry information or to receive more information. You can access a downloadable .PDF entry form here.

The Second Annual Canada Day Mile will lead off the parade, clearing the way for a loud and bright procession of decorated floats, pipe band, colour party, local dignitaries, marchers, bicyclists, big trucks, classic cars and emergency vehicles.

Anything goes, as long as it's safe, respectful and doesn't involve throwing items such as candies into the crowds. You can walk in a group with a flag or banner, ride a decorated bicycle, walk some dogs, amaze with radio control models, decorate vehicles and wave at the folks, pull a flatbed trailer with a display, or think of something unique!

Judges will decide on winners in four categories, who will be acknowledged in a newspaper advertisement and on social media.

Last year's winners were:
  • Best Entertainment: Bella Dance Academy
  • Best Community Group: Yellowknife Southern Cameroon Cultural Association
  • Best local Business Yellowknife Co-op
  • Judge’s Choice: Radio Control Enthusiasts of Yellowknife.

The parade entries will again stage in front of City Hall all along 49 Avenue. At 11am, the parade will start and proceed down 48 Street and then head south along Franklin Avenue to where the parade ends with a left turn onto Forrest Drive. Construction of the new civic pool means no access to the arena parking lot as in past years.

The Rotary Club of Yellowknife acknowledges the 2023 Community Parade is to be held on Chief Drygeese Territory, the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene people. Our members respect the history and cultures of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit people and warmly invite them to participate again in this year's parade.
