Last Weeks program was provided by Rotarian Dennis Brownlee. Former Rotarian, Chris Prevatt, introduced Kelly Kowall of “My Warriors Place”. Before introducing Kelly, Chris told us of how in became introduced to My Warriors Place. Chris has had some challenges in his life surrounding brain surgery that required him to learn how to walk and talk again. Chris suffered from depression over his ailments and found that he was missing a “purpose” in life. After being introduced to My Warrior’s Place, Chris has found purpose. Chris’s fishing guide service has given him the opportunity to help veterans by giving them a chance to get out on the water and to have a “friend” to talk to. Kelly Kowall started My Warrior’s Place after the death of her son in Afghanistan. Her son’s voice kept talking in her head that she needed to help veteran’s and she decided to help through offering fishing trips, with the purchase of a new boat, and found that the vet’s she was taking out needed more than just fishing but, they were unable to receive the services they needed. My Warrior’s Place is a retreat center for Veterans, Military Service Members, Law Enforcement Officers, Fire Fighters and Blue, Silver & Gold Star Families. Additionally, My Warrior’s Place offers several amazing programs for those who have put their life on the line for our safety and well being, endured the death of a fallen warrior and/or experienced the horrors of war. Each program offered by My Warrior’s Place plays an important role in the healing and coping process and the support that is obtained through these programs is priceless. The Retreat Center offers a relaxed tropical setting on the Little Manatee River in Ruskin. The Property provides a safe haven where healing can begin for those who have endured the sacrifice that is made when on serves in the military or as a first responder keeping us safe, secure and free. The property consists of several Studio, 1 bed/1 bath and 2 bed/2 bath cottages, 3 RV Pads, and office and a small laundromat. Amenities include, but are not limited to, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, fishing equipment, fire pits, gas grills, bicycles, putting green, screened in patios, basketball goal, a workout room, hammocks, several boats, a boat launch area, 2 docks and multiple gazebo and garden areas. The Plant City Rotary Club recently held its Awards and Installation banquet at the Lone Palm Country Club. It was a night of fun and fellowship. It provided an opportunity to recognize members for an outstanding year as well as to install the officers and directors for the 2019-2020 Rotary year. After a social hour, the night started with a greeting from President Jodi Stevens and the traditional invocation, pledge and song.
Following dinner President Jodi introduced P.C. Rotarian and Assistant District Governor Clayton Jenkins who presented two “Ideas in Action” Awards. One was presented to Dr. Dennis Digamon for his work to complete multiple dental missions to the Philippines.
The second was presented to D.G. Nick Hall for his efforts to raise money with multiple cross country solo bicycle trips to raise money for Polio eradication.
Next Club Foundation chairman Tim Kip presented Paul Harris Fellows to Delores Digamon and John Haney.
Next the awards portion of the night began with President Jodi handing out of perfect attendance pins. The following Rotarians were recognized for perfect attendance:

Next this year’s board was called up and each member presented with a gift from President Jodi with thanks for all the hard work and dedication this year,

Our club had two very successful fundraisers this year. The next item on the program was recognition of the chairmen of those two events.
Jodi Stevens and Doug Watson were recognized as the chairmen of the Dancing With the Locals fundraiser
and James Surrency and Brian Griffin were recognized as Chairmen of the Wild Game Cookout.
Next it was time for special awards. First, Rising Star Awards were presented to Shawn Jemison and Trey Stevens in recognition of their enthusiasm, dedication and hard work as new club members.
Next, the Be The Inspiration Award was presented to Kayla Drawdy,
the Spirit of Service award was presented to Charles Harris,
and the President’s Award was presented to Bill Wicker.
The last special award was Rotarian of the Year. This award goes to a club member that best exemplifies the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self! This year’s recipient was certainly well deserving of the honor. Our club took great joy in providing the Rotarian of the Year Award to Doug Watson!
Following the award portion of the evening, Outgoing President Jodi gave an address summarizing the year and thanking the club for all the work put forth this year.
The next item on the agenda was the installation of directors and officers. President Jodi called on District Governor Nick Hall to handle the installation.
Before beginning the installation, DG Nick called up Clayton Jenkins and presented him with an award for outstanding service as Assistant District Governor.
Next, DG Nick called up incoming President Doug Watson and administered the oath of office.
DG Nick pointed out that as President, Doug follows a long line of the presidents who have come before to get the club to where it is today. He then called on the former Club Presidents in attendance to come forward and be recognized.
The former presidents in attendance included Charles White- 79-80, Bob Roderick- 85-86, Bill Wicker- 96-97, Clayton Jenkins- 99-00, Tom Schaub- 00-01, Tim Kip- 02-03, Keith Smith- 11-12, Billy Keel- 12-13, Brian Griffin- 14-15, Charles Harris- 16-17, and Jodi Stevens- 18-19.
Next the incoming directors and officers came forward and were sworn in by D.G. Nick for the upcoming year.
After the officers were sworn in President Doug addressed the club and talked about plans for the upcoming year.
The last item of the night was recognition of outgoing President Jodi Stevens and presentation of the Past-President’s pin and plaque.
President Doug ended the evening by thanking everyone for attendance and dismissing the banquet.
On Friday and Saturday June 14th and 15th our club was able to help a Plant City resident whose house needed some repairs.Thanks to some hard work by many of our club members and their family members we were able to repair windows, siding, steps, part of a ceiling and add a porch rail.The outside of the house was pressure washed and painted.The house also received a new metal roof.The roof work and repairs would not have been possible without the help of 2 of our member’s businesses.Special thanks goes out to Shawn Jemison – Solution Source and Clayton Jenkins - T. Clayton Jenkins Construction.
A shout out also goes to club member Shaun Bryant – Pipe Pros Inc. for providing the mini-excavator which was a huge help in the demolition and removal of an unwanted storage shed. What a great way to finish out this Rotary year. The homeowner was very appreciative of our help. #ServiceAboveSelf

Do Your Best
I’ve heard The Four Way Test recited countless times while visiting clubs, with plenty of time to reflect upon the words that some pay lip service to, while others use it as a standard for every pondered decision. But is the test always a realistic commitment for a person to make?
Is It The Truth? The intent is to always be honest in our dealings with others. But what if telling the truth conflicts with one of the other 3? “Honey, do these blue-jeans make my butt look big?” Think about this one carefully, especially if you want to build goodwill and better friendships.
Is It Fair To All Concerned? While fairness is a value each of us should embrace, sometimes when resolving a conflict, the decision may justifiably be perceived as unfair to the party whose request was denied. But while the outcome may not be fair to all concerned, the decision making process certainly can be.
Will It Build Goodwill and Better Frienships? Hopefully, but that should not be the primary objective. Treating people fairly and with honesty should be the foundation of any relationship. If it is, then the building of goodwill and friendship will be the reward for having abided by
these two. (Unless, of course, you were a bit too truthful in answering the blue-jeans question!)
Will it be Beneficial for All Concerned? A shrewd business decision may benefit the shareholders, but could be a major set-back for the competition. The Medieval Wheel of Fortune symbolizes the reality that while one person’s fortune is rising, another’s is declining.
But eventually, what goes up will inevitably go down so it’s likely that over time everyone will benefit at least some of the time. There’s an easy fix to these potential conflicts; Transform each question into an action
statement (I will tell the truth, I’ll be fair, etc). Then take a page from the Scout Handbook by adding to each declaration, I will do my best to …………………
That was my guiding principle during this past year when I occasionally had to make difficult decisions. At the end of the day, knowing you did your best is all anyone can ask for.
