Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.

This year's Rotary International Convention is being held in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 10 to June 14. Rotarians from around the world will be convening to share stories, learn about youth programs, exchange ideas about peace and conflict resolution and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation. I looks to be a very festive occasion.
In 2017-18, we’ll answer the question “What is Rotary?” with RI President-elect Ian H.S. Riseley’s theme, Rotary: Making a Difference. “Whether we’re building a new playground or a new school, improving medical care or sanitation, training conflict mediators or midwives, we know that the work we do will change people’s lives — in ways large and small — for the better.”
if we want Rotarians to invite their friends and associates to become members, the Rotarians, themselves, have to be fully involved and excited about their Rotary Club. To get excited about Rotary, every Rotarian has to be actively engaged in some kind of satisfying Club activity. This is one of the most difficult tasks of a Club President and club leaders – find a worthwhile job for every member. Rotarians like to know they are doing something of value. Service means worthwhile activity. When Rotarians feel the satisfaction of achievement, there is seldom any desire to drop out and they will eagerly share their enthusiasm. Good activities for every member, plus interesting and enjoyable meetings are the only sure answer to solid Club retention and expanded membership. A member who loves Rotary will be your greatest salesman for new Rotary memberships.
This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Peace.
"A skeptic might ask: 'How can Rotary be a real force for peace? It has no jurisdictional power. It is not a religion. It has no army or tanks, and it insists on being nonpolitical.' Such a viewpoint looks at peace as something that can be ordered or militarily enforced, as if it is only the responsibility of governments. Rotary has always approached peacemaking systematically — it has sought to break down the barriers that cause people to point fingers at one another. By trying to understand peoples‘ points of view and reaching across lines of race, religion, and culture to become partners in service to all mankind, tensions are reduced and friendships are increased. Humanitarian aid has been Rotary‘s answer to hunger, sickness, illiteracy, and economic disaster — the seeds of conflict." — From A Century of Service: The Story of Rotary International by David C. Forward
An interesting Rotary program of fellowship is the Rotary Friendship Exchange. This activity is intended to encourage Rotarians and their families to visit with Rotarian families in other parts of the world. It may be conducted on a club-to-club (individual Rotarians and their families) or district-to-district (four to six Rotary couples) basis.
The idea is for several Rotarian couples to travel to another country on the Rotary Friendship Exchange. Later, the hospitality is reversed when the visit is reciprocated. After a successful pilot experiment, the Rotary Friendship Exchange became a permanent program of Rotary in 1988.
The Rotary Friendship Exchange is frequently compared to the Group Study Exchange program of The Rotary Foundation, except that it involves Rotarian couples or families who personally pay for all expenses of their intercountry experience. Doors of friendship are opened in a way that could not be duplicated except in Rotary.
Rotarians seeking an unusual vacation and fellowship experience should learn more about the Rotary Friendship Exchange. Some unusual Rotary adventures are awaiting you!

The club has fundraisers and service events coming up!
Give our Club all the support you can to make it successful. We need all cylinders firing!!! Please do what you can to serve our club. If you not being asked to serve the club, ask where you can help!
Participate in Every Rotarian Every Year. Any amount you can contribute will help the success of Rotary International in your community and around the world. Let's try to become a 100% EREY club, where every member contributes something to the Rotary Foundation, either directly or through the club.
Think of another way in which you could serve our club, or help a committee chair with some of their responsibilities. Abby and Kathy are assembling the team for the next Rotary year. Help them in any way that you can, even if you have not been asked.
