The Gathering Place
Kristina Austin, director of community relations and marketing for the Gathering Place in Beachwood and Westlake, spoke to the Rotary Club of Twinsburg at a recent luncheon meeting about the caring communities for those touched by cancer.
Austin helps educate the greater community about programs and services of The Gathering Place, of Westlake and Beachwood, whose mission is to support, educate and empower individuals and families touched by cancer through programs and services.
The Gathering Place is a non-profit cancer support center, providing hope and comfort to those dealing with the disease, Austin explained. The sense of community is what Eileen Saffran, founder and executive director of The Gathering Place, hopes people will continue to gain.
The growth and success of The Gathering Place, recognizing its 10th anniversary this year, has been made possible by donors, organizations and community members who understand that there's more to a cancer diagnosis than treatment, surgeries and chemotherapy.
More than one million people in the U.S. get cancer each year. Today, millions of people are living with or have been cured of the disease. The sooner a cancer is found and treatment can begin, the better an individual's chances are of a cure.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield shares a passion for good health and partners with The Gathering Place, and together they have supported more than 17,500 individuals.
Race for the Place, a fundraising event that celebrates life and cancer survivorship, will be June 6. The event is open to all people who have a journey with any kind of cancer.
