Shoe Boxes are on their way!

Throught member donations and a 50% match by the club, a donation of $525 was sent to the Shoeboxes for the Children of the Dump project. That was enough for at least 17 shoeboxes filled with flip flops, school supplies and a few toys. Seventeen children of the dump will receive this opportunity to break out of a unending spiral in poverty.
These shoeboxes will be assembled and packaged in Detroit, shipped to Houston, where Walmart will collect all the shipments from around the US and ship them to Nicaragua, free of charge.
Children of the Dump in Nicaragua receive these shoeboxes provided they start attending school to become educated and help them to break the cycle of poverty they are currently in. If a parallel effort, communities are being build for these people and the adults are trained to grow vegetables and raise livestock for consumption and sale. With the proceeds, they will be able to also break the proverty cycle and become productive citizens.
