We asked Heather a few questions so you can get to know her:
What do you do, and what's the best part of your work?
I'm a toxicologist at Bayer Consumer Health. The best part of my job is that no two days are the same. One day I could be preparing to meet with the FDA to discuss a new Claritin formulation, and the next I could be evaluating the safety of an impurity found in Afrin sold in Australia. I never know what's ahead, and that keeps me constantly engaged.
What made you say yes to Rotary?
I've done a lot of volunteer work over the years for Bayer and really love it, but it was not for my own community. Truthfully, I've been living in Hillsborough just a little over seven years, but this has been the longest I've stayed in one place for the past two decades. I feel like I have roots finally and want to become more involved in the community. I couldn't think of a better way to engage than with Rotary, so I'm very excited they accepted me.
What's one cause or community issue you care about most?
That is a tough one because there are so many areas that could use assistance. However, as a mom of a person with mental illness, and having spent years trying to best navigate the mental health resources in NJ, I would have to say I'm passionate about this topic. I would like to make sure that those who need help know what's available and how to get it, and possibly increase treatment options. Mental health is so important to everyone, but the resources are limited and/or unclear to most.
If you could try any hobby or skill tomorrow, what would it be?
For the past few years, I've been bugging my husband to get me drums so I can learn to play. Our home is not soundproof, so you can understand his hesitation. 
What are you most looking forward to with the club?
I'm looking forward to helping out at next year's Rotary Fair and then seeing the smiles and impact Rotary has when putting the money raised back into the community.
