On September 2nd, we had the incredible honor of hosting Rotarian Ed Galkin, who shared the inspiring story behind the "Flight to End Polio."
In 2023, Rotarians Peter Teahen and John Ockenfels circled the globe in a single-engine Cessna covering 19 countries in 90 days in an effort to raise awareness and funds for polio eradication. In 2025, Ed joined Peter Teahen for an equally daring transatlantic leg of the journey, carrying that mission even further.
Together, these flights have raised over $2 million toward ending polio worldwide, and the media attention they generated has shined a spotlight on a cause that is so close to Rotary's heart.
Ed's firsthand account of the flight, the preparation, the challenges, and the people met along the way left our members inspired and reminded of just how far Rotarian dedication can carry us, literally and figuratively.
