CLUB MEETING MINUTES - SPEAKER JESSIE FINNIE FROM THE SCITUATE TOWN LIBRARY

Meeting Minutes – 19 September 2018

 

CLUB MEETING

PRESENT: Bart, Janet, Debbie, Bernie, Walter, Sue, Nancy, Joan, Janice, Mike, Joe, Lucille, Bob, Sandi, Lois, Lambert, and our speaker Jessie from the Scituate Library. GREAT to see so many participating in our meeting! Thank you for coming.

 

Meeting opened promptly at 6:30 by President Bart. Lucille did not find the queen, and happy bucks were their generous selves.

 

After dinner Jessie told us about the new town library. They counted 27,000 visitors this summer! And a pretty regular 500-700 visitors a day since the new library opened. She presented to us the Strategic Plan for FY 2019-2024: 1st goal is to stay eligible for state and federal grants and 2nd to create a “road map” for funding and staff. The SP Committee was comprised of 21 members that represented a broad cross-section of town residents (seniors and students, professionals, leaders) to examine the current environment, create and administer a community survey, and make goals and objectives. They held 2 long meetings with a professional mediator.

“Libraries Transforming Communities” is a format used to examine Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results was the framework for the committee and community survey. The survey took place over 2 week via email, website, and newspapers and collected 695 responses. The results of the survey were used to create the goals and objectives for the Strategic Plan. Questions were totally Scituate focused and will be found on the website shortly. 5 Goals and Objectives were created by the committee:

  1. Be An Informed Citizen

  2. Create Young Readers

  3. Satisfy Curiosity

  4. Visit a Comfortable Space

  5. Connect to the Digital World

There will be yearly action plans to meet each of these goals.

This is a great way to connect to the RI President and our District. It is a time for the Governor to connect with us. PLEASE join us in this meeting. You are welcome to join in all or part of the Board's meeting with the Governor which will begin at 5.
