ROTARY NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 19, 2008

GUESTS: Speaker Barbara Amidon, Joyce Coulter, Janet D'Angelo

MEMBERS: President- Elect Candace, Dietrich, Janice, Bill, Jamie, Walter, Michael (make up in Key Biscayne), Joe, Karen, Connie, Bart (South Shore Council), Donna, Bob P., Sandi, Janet, Ben, Diane, Bernie and Veronica

In the absence of President Bob, Candace did an outstanding job of leading us through a wonderful Rotary Foundation evening, as November is designated as "Foundation Month". Candace welcomed our guests and introduced Janet D'Angelo, who is a communications consultant living here in Scituate.

Donna led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Bill led us in the evening blessing. After his Invocation, Bill also offered his inspirational W.O.W.'s and the best one was having his wife, Joyce in our company again. She spent several days at the SouthShoreHospital and we are all glad she is now home and was able to join us tonight. We always look forward to seeing you both!!!

Janet received accolades from all for her outstanding coordination of the Open World Program with its Russian delegation of six professionals. She organized all the housing, transportation, programs and meals for their week's stay with Rotary District 7950. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Doctors and Russian Rotarians last week when they spoke at our club. It was a week of "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" for Janet and Bart and all the hosts!

Our guest speaker was Barbara Amidon, Assistant Governor of Area One, Dennis and Harwich on Cape Cod. She has fulfilled a mission to the leprosy community of Nagpur, India by providing a Mobile Dental Clinic, utilizing funding from Rotary International Matching Grants. The mobile van was purchased with $6,000 from her local Harwich/Dennis Club, $6,000 from the Nagpur, India Rotary Club and $12,000 matching grants from our Foundation. This van was constructed locally in India and was make from mostly recycled materials. It serves the Leprosy Clinic and goes into the jungle areas to treat over 5,000 people! What a monumental project for two partnering Rotary Clubs and the realization of a living legacy for Barbara's father Robert Stone - Past District Governor, who had the vision for this work!

Tom, from CardinalCushingSchool provided us with a list of 28 students who will be attending our annual Christmas Party at the Barker Tavern on Wednesday, December, 3rd at 6pm. Half of the students were assigned tonight and we will be contacting members to join us to host a student and bring a Christmas gift for each one. Joe Kelley has graciously offered to be "Santa Baby" for the evening and we will be looking forward to a magical evening with all!!!! DJ Mike Tucker has donated his services to play music for the students and their favorite is "Rock Around the Clock".

There is no meeting next week, so enjoy Thanksgiving blessings.
