March 13, 2013: Nancy White - Scituate Mariner

The weekly meeting of The Scituate Rotary Club was held at The Scituate Country Club on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

Those present were Lambert Brandes, Lois Brandes, Candace Cramer, Walter Heller, Suzanne Kavanagh, Joe Kelley, John Miller, Connie Mitchell, Joan Powers, Robert Schipul, Lucille Sorrentino, Jack Stebe, Ben Summers, Mimi Svenning, Ruth Thompson, Lisa Tompson, Bernie Westerveld, and Nancy White.

President, Joe Kelley, called the meeting to order at 6:30 and led The Pledge to The American Flag.

Bob Schipul offered the Invocation.

All joined in the speaking of The Four Way Test.

Joe welcomed our guests, Nancy White and Ruth Thompson, from The Scituate Mariner.

Jack Stebe gave a report about the PETS Conference he attended.  On a hand-out, he outlined many of the ideas he would like to see implemented during his Presidency, starting July 1st

Our President, Joe Kelley, met with Razia Jan on Sunday, March 10th, at The Hero Among Us Meeting.  He presented her with a check for supplies at The Michael J. Kelley School in Afghanistan.  Congratulations, for helping to bring this to pass, Joe!

Walter Heller, Sergeant at Arms, presided over Queen of Hearts.  The Queen is still to be found in a full deck of cards!

In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day, Maureen served a delicious, home cooked, New England Boiled Dinner.  Thank you, Maureen.  It was outstanding!

Mimi and Suzanne gave an update on the plans for Dietrich’s Installation.  They showed us the reservation form for signing up for tickets online.  Mimi and Suzanne, we can’t thank you enough for all your endeavors on this very important project.  You are amazing!  There are also plans to visit all the Rotary Clubs in District 7950 to publicize this event.  Members are needed to volunteer for these assignments.  It will be a great way to become familiar with other clubs in our district.

A sign up sheet was circulated for the GIE Dinner at Janice Brown’s House on March 27th

We were most fortunate to have Nancy White, the editor of The Scituate Mariner, as our speaker of the evening.  Nancy was most charming as she told about her appointment as editor.  She gave the details of appropriate material, and how to submit one’s news’ items.  Nancy circulated a handout with all the details.   Ruth Thompson, a reporter, was with Nancy.  We are delighted that these two young women graced us with their charm and expertise.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Lois Brandes
