Bob Schipul stopped in at Mill Wharf. They do a Sunday morning jazz brunch. Bob suggested we do a Saturday jazz morning brunch with some of the money going to this family. They get $17 for the brunch. We could ask them to have it for $25 and use the extra money for this family. Would need to have a committee work on this.

Everybody who applied will get something.

Program: Sandi Schipul "Notable Glimpses of Rotary' past"

The first issue of our Rotarian Magazine rolled off the presses at the end of January in 1911!!! President Paul P. Harris was the editor and first contributor and described it as "a means for the exchange of ideas between Rotarians throughout the world'. Also on this auspicious date of February 23, Paul Harris conducted the first meeting of what would become Rotary in Room 711 of the Unity Building in Chicago, IL. He and his three business men named it the "711 Club " until the official name of Rotary and its wheel were finally instituted. That was in 1905, so on this very evening Rotary is celebrating its 106th year of "Service Above Self".

And on this auspicious evening we also celebrate 62 years of service for Lew Burridge, who is ill and not with us...

Alden Mitchell was our Charter Member in 1969 and would have served almost 40 years.....He was the 2nd President.

We celebrate Ben Summers 13 th year in Rotary .

Walter Heller is a 12 year member and two term President.

Bart and Janet tie for 12 years of stellar service, both serving as President and Janet as Assistant D. G.

Suzanne 11 years and President.

Dietrich , 10 years, President and Assistant District Governor, currently D.G. Nominee.

KUDOS for all of these awesome achievements!!!!!!!

I chose to highlight 5 contributors from the past issues of The Rotarian;

Buzz Aldrin and he lived here in Scituate on Gannett Pasture Lane (my street) and 'buzzed' the neighbors as he flew his air force training planes from Weymouth over the treetops of said street!!!!!! The article revealed that he was a Rotarian in Houston and planted a Rotary service pin on the moon in 1969 when he and Neil Armstrong left their famous footprints on the lunar surface!!!!!!

Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a contributor and offered an article highlighting his hidden talent of writing English prose. The photo featured him in his painting smock and revealed his love of painting. Our club met his granddaughter Edwina Churchill who was our speaker for the film preview of ' Writing on the Wall, Remembering the Fall of the Berlin Wall". Edwina is an artist also who used the broken concrete pillars of the "Iron Curtain" and transformed them into an artful open invitation of World Peace.

Albert Einstein, Father of Modern Physics ( E= MC2) wrote an article entitled "Peace Demands Action" in 1948.

Rev. Norman Vincent Peale was also a Rotarian and this author of "The Power of Positive Thinking" wrote in 1950, " There are Glorious Days Ahead"!!!!!!

Orville Wright was the inventor of the first motorized airplane and he and his brother Wilbur flew the first manned flight over Kitty Hawk, N.C. in 1903. His sister a power player and should have been the "third" Wright Brother, but that was a different era!!! Orville was a member of the Dayton, Ohio Rotary Club and the Rotary Magazine published his last press interview in 1948.

Remarkable people. Remarkable Clubs. Even the sky does not withhold its limits from the power of positive thinking and SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
