SCITUATE ROTARY CLUB'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY MEETING

20 February, 2019

Twenty-four members, family and dignitaries showed up to help us celebrate this momentous event!

A special thanks to our Governor, Bill Tenant and his wife Deb, and PDG Steve Certa and his wife Paula, and AG Jean Sullivan to help us celebrate! Gov. Bill presented us our certificate of 50 years of membership in RI.

That, with our beautiful cake, compliments of Nancy Jacobs, and such a committed showing by our membership made this an evening to remember. (Dietrich, Dennis, Michael, Sara, and Janice – you were missed!) A reminder to all that Janice is house-bound for 4-6 weeks recovering from a fractured hip and damaged pelvis from a fall last week. Let her know you are thinking about her!

The President mentioned his email received this week:

  • Dennis Snyder's new book RACING POINT available on Amazon

  • District Response Team wants to invest in a trailer (Rotarian AG Ed McDonough)

  • No “International Night” this year - look for it next year again

  • Hull wine-tasting event next Wednesday at Hull Lifesaving Museum - $50/couple (Jean thinks)

  • District award applications handed over to Secretary – 3 of 5 possible

  • Next week Fellowship Night followed by Ash Wednesday – no meeting

  • Multi-club event with Hull hosting 3/13 at Corner Stop – normal $20 evening

After a yummy meal, Janet spoke about her 20 years in the Scituate Rotary Club. 20 years of theme pins and all things Rotary pins were on display. Once more I will ask if anyone has a Montreal convention pin - I would like to get one. (Don't know how I can possibly not have it!) Anyway, remembered:

  • Past Presidents (plaque upstairs)

  • Community Service through the years – Phonebook, Habitat for Humanity, Senior Dinners, DARE, Cushing Party, Polio Plus, a hastily organized “walk for Brian”,

  • President's passion projects – mine was “Walk to School Initiative” back when we had no international projects.

  • ID packages created for residents-especially students-for families to keep

  • International project grew with President's passions: Bob (Capstone Ministries), Joe (Kelley School), MMFC, Mike (Conflict Resolution Films), Uganda water well (Debbi), among others

  • Razia Jan came to us while I was an AG for the Duxbury Club

  • MMFC had been on our radar for years before we sent a container to Gitwe, Rwanda

  • Club visibility at International Conventions, unheard of, twice, in Birmingham and Montreal; participation at District Conferences

  • A District Governor!

  • Twin cities (France, Bulgaria, Mongolia!)

  • RAG's – Rotary Action Group I joined the MS RAG in Birmingham

  • Great Fellowship in Birmingham (Bob, Sandi, Bart, Janet, Walter, Mike)

  • CONNECTIONS – Mike Johnson – the BEST!

  • Need to allocate MM funds rather than sit on them – a discussion to happen

I have had a great 20 years – lets get the word out this year so others will join our fun.

Respecfully submitted,

Janet
