29 April 2015: Debbie Wheeler - Outreach Uganda

Members present were Dietrich Bilger, Sara Collins, Sue Heller, Walter Heller, Beatriz Hurwich, Nancy Jacobs, Michael Johnson, Suzanne Kavanagh, Joe Kelley, Karen Kelley, JD Miller, Bart Nuboer, Joan Powers, janet Schmitz, Lucille Sorrentino, Jack Stebe, Bernie Westerveld and Debbie Wheeler.
Guests present were Wilma Goodhue, Ruth Frye (Project Reach), Ruth Thompson (Scituate Mariner), Tracy Johnson (Corse) and Brenda.

Dietrich Bilger spoke on the “kick-back” $50,000.00 was the goal. Mentioned Beth Murphy was at the assembly in CT, and is now doing the movie, “The Peacemaker.”   There will be a de-briefing meeting at Lucille’s house on Friday a.m. about the 50-50 Rafel how it went, etc. at 8:30 a.m.

 

Reminder of the Community Luncheon at the Marshfield Senior Center, this Saturday, on Webster Street, Marshfield, Cooks (Walter Heller and Bob Schipul will arrive around 9:30 a.m.) All hands on deck are needed. Also help on Friday afternoon prior, to set up tables and chairs, etc. Meeting around  3:30 p.m. for those who can make it. Time for luncheon is ll:30 a.m – l:00 p.m. Lunch will be served at noon. The center is expecting l00 to attend.

 

CORSE received a check from our club. Stacey spoke for a few minutes on CORSE and thanked the club.

Project REACH from Marshfield also received a check from our club. Ruth also spoke for a few minutes and thanked our club.

Happy/Sad bucks: Lucky ticket drawn by Maureen. Bart had the ticket, but did not get the queen of hearts.

 

Then Debbie Wheeler gave a presentation on “Outreach Uganda,” and showed slides. They reach out to 3 areas in Uganda, Jinja, Kitgum and Agwata. Debbie stressed how they work with impoverished people there and teach education and training. Also younger children do art projects. There is training in  Basic math for the older girls, and business related English. She and her daughter have gone there and worked with the children.
