Speaker: Maura McMann told us about Maura’s Hopeful Mission and how it got started. Maura is a Social Worker out of Scituate, MA and recognized the growing problem of despair among the homeless population in Boston when the Long Island Bridge closed. She filled her car with food and water, drove into Boston and started giving away meals and treating homeless people with respect. Two years later she's given up her garage and free time to this cause. It’s mission is a grassroots humanitarian effort that seeks to be a beacon of hope for inner-city individuals. The members of Maura’s Hopeful Mission bring this beacon to the streets of Boston via food, clothes, blankets and the warmth of human interaction. By providing life essentials, the mission strives to eradicate the hopelessness, helplessness, and despair often felt by individuals who are struggling with addiction, homelessness and other life-changing events.
They are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, grassroots humanitarian . MHM has no employees or salaries. Funds raised pays for items such as backpacks, new socks and new underwear. Now they need seasonal clothes, shoes, sneakers, blankets, backpacks, t shirts, socks and etc. Clothes, back packs and ets. can be left at Maura’s garage on 9 Colonial Way, Scituate. They go to the streets of Boston on the third Thursday of the month and sort donations on the Saturday before. They have 150 volunteers. On June 21, 2018 they are going to try something new. They will bring and serve a dinner to Father Bill's Homeless Shelter in Quincy. They are still working out the logistics,. The city of Boston selected MHM to partner with them and they will be able to resume hot meal service to our homeless friends July 18, 2018.

Terri is a board member and does the face book of the group and is on Scituate Monthly giving information and looking for donations. Face book is: Maura’s Hopeful Mission
