Speaker: Linda Hayes, Director of Scituate Council of Aging/Senior Center.

Linda has been director for 4 years. Before that she was Assistant director at the Duxbury Senior Center. She gave a slide presentation of the center and the many programs that they have. She said that The mission of The Senior Council on Aging is to identify the unique needs and interests of our senior citizens and offer programs to enhance the quality of life, independence and physical and emotional well-being of a growing aging community. She told us of the many programs they have each day., the transportation they provide, and the trips they take. The programs cover comfort, connection, stimulation, recreation, information, education, activities, services provide and support. Some of the special ones she mentioned was the men’s morning breakfast on the first Monday of the month at The North River Grill with a speaker and large group plays pickle-ball: She also said the Senior Connection has been very successful esp. with the interack High School students. They are doing many things with the seniors. They gave buckets (paid by Rotary and Senior Center) and sand to seniors, Have game night and provide refreshments, and they are teaching the seniors how to use ipads ( 6 weeks). Girls scouts and other young people groups connect with the seniors. She told us that we are working on getting a new senior center. The present is very small and very limited parking. Many of our seniors go to Marshfield Senior Center & Duxbury because Scituate’s is inadequate. She showed pictures of the large centers in Marshfield, Hanover and Duxbury. These centers are now adding on because they have so many seniors using their centers. Linda passed out cards, literature & senior center newsletter. She also had a pamphlet on the program “50-Job Seekers Networking Group” She thanked the Rotary for all they have done for the center including the large TV.
