Meeting was held at Meeting House, Meeting House Lane , Scituate. . Debbie Wheeler, president opened the meeting at 6:30 P.M.. Bob Schipul led us in prayer. We then had dinner, which was a pot luck with many great dishes and deserts.

After dinner Debbie started with a suggestion of having an October fest on October 15th, She has talked to the Lutheran Church House of Prayer about their October Fest which have been very successful. They had the King Ludwig’s Bavarian Band, ( three men) and Lucille thought we could get them for $600 for three hours. We would have German food and would sell tickets. We would need to sell 100 tickets at $20 each. We will sell beer. Talked more about details and cost. Talked about having it at St. Mary’s. North Scituate usually does an October Fest. After much discussion it was decided not to do this at this time.

Their was talk about having a craft fair. It was felt that this wasn’t going to work since several of the churches have craft fairs in November and December.

Debbie brought up what the Lutheran Church did was re gifting and silent auction . Janet said people bring in gifts to be auction off. Debbie said we could have it at St. Luke’s on Friday November 17th and bring in things in the evening of Thursday the 16th. . There will be a charge of $200 for the sexton. Joan pointed out that this time of year the churches have their fairs with large silent auctions. St. Luke’s is the first Saturday in November and several churches have it on the first Saturday in December. There was much discussion and it was put on hold.

Joan suggested that churches have made 5 thousand to 6 thousand at the recycle center for cans and bottles. I t was discussed.

Lucille brought up that we could do a 50/50 and have the band the same time. She suggested we do the raffle we had for $100 with large money winners. We sold 220 tickets and the grand prize was 10 grand. We could do this in March or April. Made 8 thousand last time. .If it is called a drawing you don’t have to pay taxes. We also had a silent auction. More discussion. Decided to put it on hold.

Debbie said we need to discuss the pancake breakfast. Debbie went thru the list for the pancake breakfast. We will set up on Friday at 3:30 PM. Went over the list of things needed. Peter got $275 in gift cards that can bee used for things needed. Peter will get flags and etc. from the Country Club. Janet and Lucille will do the shopping. JD gets the food from Life Care. Lucille will get the sausage from Cardigan. Joan has a cash box. JD said we might have some students from the interact club. Janet will bring the placemats.

Men will come earlier on Saturday. Others should be there by 7 AM.

Joe read a letter he got from Razia stating since winter is 5 months away she world like to get new uniforms and sneakers for the students with the money for Michael Kelly’s school. They need new uniforms. There uniforms are old and raggedy. T hey are blue cotton The well is still working.

She would like to get our approval to use the money we gave her for the school as soon as possible. Other wise they can wait until November to get them jackets and boots. After a discussion we agreed that we would approve Razia’s request to get the uniforms and school supplies with the money.

Please plan to attend the next two important meetings. August 16th The District Governor will be our speaker and on August 23rd Eleanor Grossman, Helen (Sis) Dowd and Janet White will talk about their experiences in the Armed Forces.
