18 January 2017: The Scituate High School Interact Club
Members present were Lambert Brandes, Lois Brandes, Janice Brown, Sue Heller, Nancy Jacobs, Joe Kelley, JD Miller, Bart Nuboer, Joan Powers, Robert Schipul, Sandra Schipul, Janet Schmitz, Bernie Westerveld and Debbie Wheeler,
Guests present were prospective Rotarian Jean and seven members of the Scituate High Interact Club.

Guests welcomed were Jean Maras (who learned about our club through our Holiday Giving Trees campaign at Shaw's-Cohasset), and our speakers for the evenings:  seven Interact youth from the high school (Cara, David, Henry, Jack, Lauren, Michael and Shelby) who presented an update on their projects so far this year:
- Holiday Giving Trees at a craft fair where they collected $300 which they donated to All in All the Time;
- 50 sand buckets have been ordered and will be delivered to senior citizens;
- Helped at the Senior Center with their Tech Tips;
- Attended the Cardinal Cushing Christmas party and "interacted" smiley with the youth;
- Helped with our Pancake Breakfast and Community Dinner held at St. Luke's Church; and
- They have ordered t-shirts with the Interact logo on them.

Plans for the balance of the year include:
- Dinner and a Game Night at the Senior Center;
- "Adopt-an-Island" near the high school
- A car wash at St. Luke's Church
- Participate in Scituate's "Ship Shape" clean-up day;
- RYLA, and
- Collect and donate used prom dresses to Anton's Cleaners who then launders the dresses and gives them to girls who cannot afford to purchase a prom dress.

The Interact Club now has 18 members, and they meet each Wednesday at the high school.

Business items discussed were:
  • Checking into details about replacing some of the Rotary road signs which are rusted.
  • Janet shared a project idea (which is a nonprofit being started by her daughter-in-law) which involves "collecting samples of voices" which will ultimately be able to be used by people who are unable to speak (due to a variety of causes).  Those people will be able to listen to a large variety of voices and choose one which will then be programmed into a computer which will then "speak" for them in their chosen voice instead of a "mechanical electronic voice."  Janet will provide us with more details.
