Speaker: Stephen Mone, Scituate Harbor Master
Stephen said he became harbormaster 21/2 years ago. Stephen then told us about the changes that are going on with the Harbor Master programs. He passed out a booklet with the Scituate mooring regulations and waterways by laws that was revised in March 24, 2017. He answered many questions about the moorings. He told us about some of the rescues that they had done. Stephen told us about his experience of falling in the icy waters on January 4th during the heavy snow and flooding. He was trying to tie up lines that had come loose from the Harbor Master’s boat. Stephen Hill, general manager of The Mill Wharf saw him and ran to him and was able to rescue him. Stephen said he had broken two of his rules: always wear a life jacket and have someone with you. He did try to get someone else but they were stuck in the snow in North Scituate. Stephen pointed out that the expenses of Harbor Master, Staff and buildings including the Maritime Center don’t come out of the township budget but come out of the fees of moorings and etc. He then answered other questions. It was an interesting presentation.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:00.
