Weekly Meeting September 10, 2009

Meeting was chaired by Shirley McRobert
The meeting started with breakfast, thanks Shirley for preparing it for us.
Shirley announced that 4 club members had registered to go to Edmonton on September 18th to hear RI president John Kenny speak at a luncheon. The event details are listed in the events tab as well as the District Website.
There was not enough club members able to attend the Riders/Esks game on September 26th. This trip has been cancelled.
Take note that the Lloydminster Rotary Club is inviting our club and the Wainwright club to join them on a tour of the Wainwright Military base on September 23, 2009. The plans are to meet at Wainwright about 3:30 p.m. take an hour or two to visit the Wainwright Military Base then proceed with a dinner to start about 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. It would provide an opportunity to meet other Rotarians from this District and find out what the Clubs are doing in the Rotary World. A sign up sheet was circulated to determine who is interested in participating.
The Interdistrict Curling Bonspiel will be held in Athabasca on February 18 to 21, 2009. More information is available in the events tab as well as the District Website.
At the September 3rd meeting a club survey was circulated and Shirley reminded club members to complete this and return it as soon as possible. Our executive appreciates feed back from club members to assist in their planning process.
Dean reminded the group that he intends to present a motion at a future meeting that the club encourage our Club President and President Elect to attend the Rotary International Conference in Montreal in 2010 and that our Club subsidize the cost of their attendance.
John Brecknock gave his vocational presentation. John was born in Montreal and later his family moved to a remote community in BC called Alexis Lake. From there he joined the RCMP and enjoyed a long and successful career in various roles in a number of communities in Alberta including Mannville, Derwent and Kistcoty. John and his wife Terry have moved to Vermilion and are enjoying time with their children and grandchildren. Thanks John for sharing your story with us!
