Meeting September 10, 2015

Thank you team two for breakfast.So many choices!

 

Guests were Shannon Stubbs , PC candidate for the Lakeland Riding and Tyson, her paper pusher/driver (and that was the title he gave me when I asked!!); Michelle Feist, Vermilion Chamber of Commerce; and Mindy Anderson, prospective member.

 

Congratulations to Candace Anderson on her first Rotary Anniversary and Dean on his 30^th.Happy Birthday to Julie Walker.

 

Carol Coleman sent a request to all Rec Centre users to remind them to shut off all lights, close windows and ensure the door is locked before they leave the building.

 

Kirby is cooking cinnimon buns at the Heritage Park during Art in the Park.If you can help out please add your name to the list circulating this week and next week.Also a reminder to continue canvasing your calendar areas.

 

The grand opening of the Boathouse will be held on September 17^th at noon at the park.If you would like to represent Rotary please contact John Lunty.

 

7.  Teresa had a busy week.  She is meeting fellow Rotary students in Hinton this weekend for their first gathering. Thank you for giving us your Austrian pins (or members could choose homemade flag pins) and cards.    

 

8. Our Vermilion Chamber of Commerce is a very active group sponsoring the Home Expo, the Woman’s Conference, Small Business Week and for the upcoming election, an all candidates forum (stay turned for date and time).  The third week in October is Small Business Week.  Michelle Feist said this year Small Business Week will start with a breakfast, 7 AM, October 20^th at the School of Hope and end with a Gala on October 22^nd, at the Senior’s Centre (cocktails at 6:00 and supper at 7:00).  The Chamber has requested that Rotary obtain the license, purchase the liquor and run the bar for a half share of the proceeds.  Moved by Charlene Carey and seconded by Julie Campbell that we operate the bar at the Gala.  Carried.   

 

9. Quest speaker Shannon Stubbs outlined the boundries of the new Federal Lakeland Riding (arranged to reflect the shifts in population).  Besides sharing some of her personal and political party’s priorities, she shared that one election promise is to have all service club fees become partially tax deductible. 

 

10. Reminders for upcoming meetings:

- September 17: bring a friend day and Scott and Lorne will do a presentation on their trip to the Rotary International Conference. 

- September 24:  Brian Match question and answer session on Primary Health Care Network.  Stay tuned for an e-mail from Jean Vidal, introducing us to our second guest, Marie Ens who operates Place of Rescue in Cambodia. 

- October 8:  No regular meeting as this is Earn Breakfast morning.  More details later.
