Presentation about St. Jerome’s Playground Project
Shelly Corbiere presented about the project to create a mobility friendly playground at St. Jerome’s. Their goal is to build a structure that has accessibility for all, including children in strollers, wheelchairs, and who have other challenges such as sensory or tactile challenges that prevent or limit them from participating on existing playground equipment. The playground will have a combination of special equipment and some more traditional playground elements and will be accessible to all children in the community outside of school hours and during the summer. The total cost of the project is $136,000 and they are looking to construct the playground in spring of 2019 as they are planning to apply for another grant in fall to assist with the surface material, on top of the grant they’ve already received from the town. The surface material is the largest cost of the project (approx $60,000) and if they receive their grants, they will need to fundraise approximately $20,000-$30,000 more to complete the project as it is currently designed.  They are looking for a monetary contribution towards the project, or the purchase of a specific piece of equipment (cost $7,700). The Executive will discuss the request at our next meeting and it will come back for discussion next week at the business meeting
