Friendship Exchange
Posted by Ken Morrison
Would you like to travel to Nova Scotia or Australia and be hosted by Rotarians? Would you like to share our culture with Rotarians from those places?
Our District is starting to get more and more involved in the Friendship Exchange.
How it works: Rotarians pay for their flight cost and travel to a far-flung place. There, they are wined, dined and hosted by local Rotarians for two weeks in their homes. Later in the year, some of the same hosting Rotarians board a plane and reciprocate the exchange. What a great way to see the world and build friendships!
Under the direction of Ed Korbyl, the District Chair for Friendship Exchange, this program is growing. In September, our district hosted a return exchange from District 6820 in Mississipi. They spent time in Hinton, Westlock, Fort McMurray and Edmonton.
At present, the committee is working on two exchanges. Autrialians will visit in June 2006, and Nova Scotians will arrive in July or August 2006. The outgoing part of these exchanges will probably be October 2006 to Nova Scotia, and Australia in February or March of 2007. All exchanges are for teo weeks and hosted by Rotarians. The exchanges are for Rotarians and spouses, as well as single Rotarians. The hosting Rotarians get the first choice for the return visit.
