It was awesome to have Honorary Member Emily Anderson as our guest this morning. Thank you team one for breakfast. It was one of the few times this year that we had no birthdays or anniversaries.
Support for Ft. McMurray: Gerald Hiebert shared his thoughts about support for Ft. McMurray. Ideas tossed around were supporting a town wide fundraiser at a later date, finding out if we can get Rotary matching grants, striking up a community support committee to coordinate fundraising and committing manpower when the rebuilding begins. Dawn is looking into an ad to promote donations to the Rotary or/and The Red Cross. Because the situation is so crowded and volatile, basically the Red Cross is saying DON’T SEND STUFF, SEND $$$. Moved by Bruce McDuff and seconded by Scott Webb that Vermilion Rotary donate $5,000 (contingent on reserves) to the 5370 Rotary Foundation for Ft. McMurray relief. Carried.
Habitat for Humanity: Moved by Bruce McDuff and seconded by Scott Webb that the Vermilion Rotary Club cover the supply costs, up to $2,000, for the Habitat BBQ on May 19th. Carried. Dawn will put the challenge out to other service clubs to sponsor other Habitat BBQ’s.
Pollinator Garden: Moved by Scott Webb and seconded by John Lunty that the Vermilion Rotary Club donate $500 to support the Pollinator Garden. Carried.
Mana Project: Request tabled and Dawn will request a presentation.
Regional Centre Request for$5,000 Donation Towards Upgrading Sound System: Moved by Craig Brown and seconded by Jeff Myles that the Vermilion Rotary Club donate $5,000 towards the upgrading of the Regional Centre sound system. Carried.
Hot Lunch: Dawn is seeing if there is enough interest to have Rotary members commit to working one day per month at the Vermilion Elementary School to help with the hot lunch program . Commitment is two members working approximately 1.5 hours serving lunch and helping to clean up. More discussion at a later date.
Stop Hunger Now: Kirby and Charlene are volunteering at the Camrose Stop Hunger Now packaging on May 15th. They have room for two more volunteers to travel with them. Give Kirby a call if interested.
Town Cleanup: Meet at Remax at 9:00 Saturday morning if you have volunteered to work the Town Cleanup. After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to a BBQ at the Town Hall.
Teresa’s Second Supper for Shelterbox: If you signed up for the May Austrian supper with Teresa, May 29th is tentatively your supper date. See Scott or Teresa.
