Shirley McRobert, John Lunty, Eugene Wasylik and Barry represented our Club at the District Curling in Athabasca and had lots of fun.
Lorne reported that his Grade 10 class at JR Robson raised over $3000 for the shelter box program.
Marlene Beattie, President of the Vermilion & District Chamber of Commerce was our guest speaker.
Marlene explained the role of the Chamber of Commerce as being an advocate for businesses in the community. The Chamber of Commerce hosts several events during the year to assist with it's goal of promoting local business. These events include Farm Curl, Phone Directory, Home Garden & More Show, Womens Conference, Annual Meeting/Golf Tournament,operating the Tourist Information Centre, Small Business Week and Candy Cane Countdown/Night Light Parade. The Chamber also maintains the electronic bulletin board, a renewed chamber website, a job posting web site called jobsinvermilion.com and is working on developing a volunteer website-volunteersinvermilion.com.
The Chamber of Commerce is funded primarily by the annual membership sales, funds raised from hosting events and an annual grant from the Town of Vermilion.
An executive is elected from the membership who then oversee the function of the Chamber. Presently the Chamber of Commerce has 1 full time employee who handles the day to day operations.
