Introduction of guests:
Birthdays and Anniversaries:
Announcements:
- Garage sale-Brenda has no new updates, will probably wait until more information comes from the provincial government.
- Charter night-Lisa has no new updates, as with the garage sale she is waiting on more information
New Business:
- Books for Belize –Robin updated the members on the Books for Belize project. He has been in contact with the Belize group and they are on curfew and isolation. The Sea Can will not be going this year. No Sea Can will be needed for a couple of years, however, Dawn pointed out that there will be less grant funding so we might think about applying sooner
- Think Ice project-Mary Lee has a meeting with Kevin Lucas, the new Community Services director. She will then be able to give us an update on the status of the Think Ice project
- District Grant for Covid-19. If we want to apply for the grant for $500 that we were going to send to the Food Bank, we need to match the amount as a club. We also need to spend the $$$ on groceries and not just send the Food Bank the funds. Eugene suggested that we send a request to East Alta Coop and one to MacDonald Foods then each one can purchase the needed items. We then need to provide the receipt to the district to qualify….the application must be in by April 17/20.
- Rotary Adventures in citizenship-update from Lorne, he received an email that Rotary Adventures in Citizenship has been cancelled this year. We won’t be receiving a full refund for the fees, half will be refunded and the remainder will be kept to cover non-refundable deposits etc. The Rotary Adventures in Citizenship asked if our club would be willing to donate the refund to the Rotary Club of Ottawa’s Charity Fund instead of receiving the money back. Our club members opted to have the funds returned to the club. Brenda Lee made a motion that Lorne Maier request an etransfer for the $370.00 back to our club. Dawn Riley seconded. Motion carried.
- Training Webinar-At least one club representative must participate in a 90 minute Foundation Grants training webinar before any club can apply for a District grant for a community or international project. Mike Webb indicated that he is booked in for Saturday April 18 session.
- Dawn will contact the Youth Exchange program to inquire about a refund for our exchange student.
- Flags-Erwin will be launching a Social Media blitz regarding our Flag program next week. We are considering some alternatives to door-to-door sales and will be discussing this at an upcoming meeting
- Membership dues-Eugene will be sending out the yearly Membership dues and meal invoices. He wondered if the dues will be remaining the same for the upcoming year. Mike said there will be an increase of $5 per member from the district, however, he will not be increasing our club dues at this time. Mike Webb made a motion to keep dues the same for the upcoming year. Erwin Warkintin seconded. Motion carried
- Mary Lee will be scanning out the volunteer sheets. Please complete them and send them back.
Sargent report- If you have ever been late for a meeting you are fined $1….so the next time you are somewhere that has a charity coin collection container, drop your Rotary fine loonie in. Also Erwin suggests to all club members to try to attend the district coffee meetings….Mary Lee will send the link to join
Meeting adjourned
Upcoming meetings
