Announcements:
- Thank you card from the 4 curlers on receiving $250 towards their jackets
- Stuart Pauls presentation-Vermilion Youth Justice Committee looking for volunteers- The Youth Justice Committee offers alternative measures for youth offenders. Youths that have committed minor offences can be recommended by a judge to appear before the Youth Justice Committee, who may be joined by other people such as the parents of the offender and the victim of the offence. They hold a confidential “hearing” with the offender to decide upon sanctions and draw up a contract with the offender to complete these sanctions within a firm 3 month period. The goal of the committee is to have the youth accept responsibility for their actions with the hope they will not re-offend. If they do not accept responsibility or do not complete their sanctions the committee files a report with their probation officer and they may have to appear in formal court. The committee is down to 3 members and are looking to draw new members from individuals with very diverse backgrounds and experiences. The Committee meets approximately 3 times per year and handles 1 to 2 cases per year. - Susan McCulley-Volunteer Resources AHS-Susan coordinates volunteers to different areas within the Vermilion, Kitscoty, Islay, Wainwright and Provost Health regions. These volunteers do various things such as entertaining residents with music, home visits, social visits with residents within the Health Centers. She also coordinates visits with the residents from different church and youth groups wishing to interact with the residents in the various locations. Susan has some ideas for future activities/services she would like to initiate in the future. 1.) assist those unable to afford having their taxes done by partnering with local accountants or Lakeland College Business students 2.)research the possibility of a volunteer driver program to take people to and from appointments 3.) start a friendly visitor program. There are many ways you can volunteer to help….even sign up your pet for a visit. Susan mentioned that the Rotary could possibly assist in funding transportation to take students from the schools to the various locations for different activities(no formal request was made at this time). Sargent report- The Sargent at Arms (Erwin Warkentin, father and courageous pilot) revealed to the club that he is deathly afraid of mice, and club members must pay a fine in order to complain about our weather.
