Birthdays and Anniversaries
Biggest birthday announcement yet! Jesse Dietrich Hiebert Warkentin was born October 9, 2019 at a whopping 8 lbs and 22 inches long! Big congrats go out to Rebecca and Erwin and Erwin's cat on their new arrival. Although...…..the birth of their first child is no excuse for missing Rotary this morning and leaving us all confused and scrambling to put out placemats and banners!
Other birthdays we celebrate are:
Dawn Riley October 13 and Craig Brown October 15
Announcements:
- Thank you to team 2 for breakfast
- Rebecca & Erwin’s Pints for Polio has no ended due to Jesse’s arrival. The winner will be announced October 24
- Flag program- Craig has resigned as chair of the Flag program. Being brought forward to the club for thoughts on finding someone to fill Craig’s shoes. This program does generate substantial revenue for the club. We will review next week
- Vermilion Voice-We would like to do an ad for National Newspaper week, however because of the timing of the executive meeting, we missed the deadline. The executive brought forward the idea of doing a quarter page ad to support them for all the free advertising they have given the club for the “Books for Belize’ project. Robin Sherwood made a motion to run a quarter page ad for $250 in the Vermilion Voice. Dave Bates seconded. Motion carried
- Roll a Hippo program-this program is supported by the Rotary club in Gibbons and raises funds to assist women who have to carry water for every day use. The “hippo” is a plastic container that carries water and rolls along the ground. Cost for a hippo is $150.00, Eugene Wasylik made a motion to purchase 1 hippo for the “Roll a Hippo” program at a cost of $150. Jean Vidal seconded. Motion carried.
- Human Rights Leadership Experience-Feb 10-14, 2020 in Winnipeg. Open to interact members only and geared towards Sr high students within our district. Laurel did discuss the possibility of going with our interact president Rhys and he will need to decide quickly. Laurel would like to ensure funding is in place if he does decide to take part and the cost to send a student is $2250. This has not been included in the budget but would come from our contingency fund. Laurel Wynnychuk made a motion to sponsor a student to attend the Human Resources Experience in Winnipeg in February. Lorne Maier seconded. Motion carried.
- Financial report-Eugene Wasylik-Eugene sent a copy of the budget out for members to look at. General discussion around items on the budget included…..Raffle tickets difference from 2018 to 2019 is due to the timing of ticket sales in relation to the year end. Revenue listed as Casino expense reimbursement is basically an in/out entry to secure the account. The category “other” for the amount of $8820 includes the one time purchase of the Sea-Can. Loretta Quickstad made the motion to accept the Financial Audit of the Books. Kirby Whitlock seconded. Motion carried
- Eugene Wasylik made the motion to hire Deborah Tovell Prof Corp to do the financial audit of our books for 2020. Brenda Lee seconded. Motion carried
- Kirby and Laurel will be presenting the International Youth Exchange at St. Jerome’s school today and in the upcoming weeks at JR Robson
- Festival of Trees/Haying in the 30’s will not be happening at Lakeland mall this year as the Chamber is trying something new this year. We will re-visit next week as to how we will proceed with this fundraiser.
- Robin is circulating volunteer hour sheets and wanted to thank club members for their donations of school supplies to Books for Belize
Sargent report- If you have cursed the forecast just to be surprised by half decent weather pay a dollar. And everyone pay a dollar to celebrate the new BABY!
