Announcements:
- Thank you to team 1 for breakfast
- Rebecca and Erwin are doing a baby pool with the proceeds going towards the polio campaign. There are two pools(date & weight) and the winner in each pool has the funds donated to Polio Plus in their name. Rebecca and Erwin will match the donation(up to $100)
- Sign up sheet circulating for our offsite meeting October 31 at BADD Cycle
- Also circulating is the Harvest Gala sign up sheet. See Shaun
- Dawn reported on the Harvest Gala, they still need security and keep in mind items for centerpieces that involve hockey, skating, curling
Laurel Wynnychuk update
- Social committee is planning a “surprise” event. Please consider Jan 17 or Feb 21 and we will discuss at the next meeting.
- The Interact group met and their first event will be the “Teal Pumpkins”
- Ticket sales have started at Webb’s Machinery…..remind your people
Ice Plant Project
Rob Pulyk thanked the Vermilion Rotary Club on behalf of the Town for their commitment in donating funds to building the new ice plant. Dean Barr also thanked the club on behalf of the Town. George Rogers CAO for the town said that the projected cost of the project will be $2 million, there could possibly be a provincial grant for a portion of the cost, however, as much money as possible needs to be raised to ensure the project will go forward. Kevin Martin, chair of the VFEC, thanked the club as well and stated that the Harvest Gala(Rotary commitment) will serve as a “fundraising kick off” for the project. Committee member Becky Zajic talked about Kraft Hockeyville and suggested members go online and submit an entry. Kraft Hockeyville will donate funds to help with arena renos
Good Life Institute presentation-Josh Anderson
The Good Life Institute is an organization aimed at providing creative, motivational and practical learning in Alberta. Josh explained that their mission is to encourage participation of local business and to help people find their passion. They hold top notch events that have grown in popularity and draw people from all over the province to visit our community. They are a great asset to our town and add to the tourism aspect of Vermilions’ economic development . The hold 4 successful events every year and are adding a 5th.
- February 7, 2020. Love from Around the World. The theme for 2020 is “Vegas in Vermilion”
- March 2, 2020 The Race of Vermilion. Has been sold out the last 3 years.
- June 30, 2020 Taste of Vermilion. Held at the fairgrounds in conjunction with Canada Day celebrations
- September 12, 2020 Art in the Park. Hosts local artisans and held at Heritage Park
- Nov 2020 Savor wine tasting, scotch tasting, local food vendors
