THINK ICE PROJECT: Town of Vermilion Ice Plant

President Mary Lee proposed a club donation of $50,000 split over 3 years.  This can be increased if we want and doesn’t tie the club down over to long of a time line.  $15,000 this fiscal year and the remainder over split over the following 2 years.  Cost for the project is $2 million, the Town of Vermilion put up $500,000 hoping to receive a grant for $1 million.  The application was denied.  If the town is able to raise the full $1 million and reapply, hopefully, the grant will be approved.  Rotary members Mary Lee, Erwin and Mike W attended the “Think Ice” town meeting.  Representatives from the County of Vermilion River were also present, and at this time the county has pledged $50,000 by way of a grant.  Questions from the floor…
  • Brenda asked if Shawn was promoting the Think Ice Project as part of the fundraising for the Harvest Gala.  Yes and the advertising on social media went out today.
  • Craig mentioned that we set the benchmark for fundraising for the last large community project ie: Lodge expansion.  Should/could the club push the benchmark higher?  As of now there is no official fundraising plan in affect for the project. Rebekah also mentioned on behalf of incoming President Mike W that $50,000 is a “doable”amount and won't tie up our fundraising dollars too far into the future
Laurel Wynnychuk moved that the Rotary Club of Vermilion donate $50,000 to the Think Ice Project over a 3 year span.  Darlene Barlow seconded
Motion carried.

Sargent report:  Erwin shared a fun activity with members from the International Convention, how to fold a Peace Dove out of paper.  If at the end of the activity you have a mangled bird pay $1.

Meeting adjourned
