Update: the request for funding from the Vermilion Public Library is no longer needed. The Lego and Literacy program has been funded by the Friends of the Vermilion Public Library as it falls within their mandate for funding. Stuart Pauls and Dawn Flaata will still be doing their presentation for the program and giving a brief update on what the Library has been up to for the last quarter
The Vermilion Public Library- a handful of lego was passed out to each Rotary member and they were asked to used their imagination to create. Dawn spoke about how everybody loves Lego from small children to seniors and how it greatly improves motor development in young children. Stuart explained that an assessment done in our community showed that motor development in the youngsters entering schools is an area that could use improving. ‘Institutional’ Lego will be introduced for ‘free play’ at the Library on Friday afternoons starting in September. ‘Institutional’ Lego consists of loose Lego ie: blocks, doors, windows, people, etc. Stuart gave a brief update what the Library has been focusing on in the last quarter. Each Library is mandated by the government to have POS (plan of service) with the focus being to help the community and to make the library a welcoming spot. Stats of all kind are collected to see what areas need improving and what steps can be taken to bridge the gap between the public perception and actual reality of things offered at the Library.
Loretta-Europe trip presentation- Loretta showed pictures of her recent trip to the Balkans, Russia,Prague and all areas in between. AWESOME!!! Now we all want to go!!
