Thank-you Team 3 for Breakfast.
Lakeland College is hosting May 22nd at 7 pm an event at the alumni hall theatre in conjunction with the learning network of Alberta and the Heart of Treaty 6 Reconciliation. It is a presentation on the cultures, histories, traditional song and dance of the indigenous people of Canada. Contact Clint Chocan at Lakeland College for more information.

Avery Atkinson: Rotary Adventures in Citizenship-May 23 Avery will be joining us next week. She has to leave by 7:30, so please be aware she will be presenting during breakfast.
Craig Brown- Update on Casino and Flags: Flags have gone up. Many hands make light work. Have sold 350-360. First casino shift is at 3pm, be there at 2:30pm. No pictures. Bring your photo ID.
Seacan Update: Brenda: Motion last week was to purchase a 40 foot seacan for $7500. To be ocated behind the old Webb’s RV building. The cost of a single door seacan would be $4200 Plus GST=$4410. There would be some potential for additional costs of gravel, locks, and racking. During discussion an option for two doors was brought up. It would increase light, accessibility, and possible configurations for projects stored. After inquiring, the cost of a two door seacan would be $7500 plus GST=$7875. That would not include any additional costs. The convenience of having doors on either end does not justify the additional cost. And there would still be additional costs above the $7875. This exceeds the $7500 that was in the Motion. Request that we go ahead and purchase a single door 40 foot seacan. This will still be within the Motion made from last week, so we can proceed with the ordering. (no other discussion).
Town of Vermilion Mayor-Carolyn McAuley-Carolyn went over the Town’s strategic plan and initiatives within those areas.
Community Engagement: Want to get out and hear from community members-like going to coffee shops. Allowing time to address council at council meetings with concerns. Mayor business breakfast in the fall. Want to collaborate and discuss issues.
Grow a Resilient and Vibrant Community: Encouraging business development/environment-look at the new entrepreneurs in our downtown. Want young people to stay here, to see opportunities and possibilities. Working to bring in broadband. Airport committee-what economic opportunity is there. Partner with County- when County draws economic development there is residual benefit to Town. Supporting summer jobs so young people have summer jobs to come back to.
Infrastructure for Today and Tomorrow: Senior lodge-due to open 2nd week of Sept. Looking at what level of support is in demand (SL3, SL4). Ice plant-55 years old-what to do in short-term and need a long-term plan. Purchased a new fire truck, which has been ordered. There is a fix coming for corner of Tim’s. New sewer treatment plant -construction has begun.
Enhance Health and Livability of the Community: Greening of lights-LED. The Town has taken over the maintenance of Provincial Park. Physician recruitment-now through AB Health. Still need to see how we can lobby for our community. Support our other health care providers-chiropractor, dentist, optometrist. Support RCMP. Block party kit.
Questions: Will our MLA have an office in Vermilion? Right now, just in Wainwright, still settling in. Orphan well in Brennan. Some leakage-caping just means it leaks up another way. A challenge of accessing and/or use of well. It is in the hand of Provincial government. RCMP support-the increase in theft and vandalism. Another officer would greatly increase taxes- seeing about helping with office services.
Sergeant’s Report: Loretta is fining herself for being late. Whomever’s phone dinged-they are fined. If you did not wear your badge-then you are fined.
