Vocational: Erwin Warkentin: Erwin’s family moved around a lot during his growing up years, living in many cities throughout Canada, some of them more than once. He also lived in Guatemala and Germany. He was even a registered citizen of Germany when he was there for a 3 week stay. His parents were both born in Germany so he now holds dual citizenship, and is lucky to be able to take the “short line” through customs when landing in Germany for a holiday. Ever since Erwin was a young child and visited an aviation museum, he knew he wanted to be a pilot. Joining the Royal Canadian Air Cadet’s in Manitoba helped foster Erwin towards his career as a pilot, and introduced him to the world of Rotary as a member of the Western Winnipeg Rotary Squadron, although at the time he did not fully understand the extent of the support Rotary provided to the organization. Erwin showed the club aerial pictures of many of the beautiful landscapes he has viewed from a plane, from many remote places most of us would not see otherwise. For the last 7 years, Erwin has been doing aerial surveillance around the Hardisty area for several different companies in the oil industry. Aerial surveillance looks for anything odd or unusual along the ground area of pipelines, in case of leaks etc. Erwin also spends time as a freelance flight instructor and is involved in growing Vermilion’s “Flying Community” though involvement in the local Flying Club. Erwin also has a keen love for sports, especially soccer and is a member of the Lloydminster Adult Soccer league and serves on the executive. He is also trained as a soccer referee. Erwin also loves travelling “off the beaten track” throughout Canada and around the world. He shared with the club that his days of working 24/7 has changed in the last few years due to the meeting of a certain person and getting married and he now takes more time to enjoy being at home and being involved with Rotary.
Cash Draw: John Reynolds $150 Dale Foulds $100
