Announcements:
Thank you to Team 1 for Breakfast.
Rotary Club of Lloydminster: 90 years as a Rotary Club-celebrating at the beginning of April. A card will be circulated to sign.
May 9th Meeting-no regular meeting: Economic Development is putting on breakfast. similar to EARN breakfasts in the past and they have asked as Rotarians to attend and support breakfast. We don’t have full details but tickets should be available soon through Eventbrite. MaryLee will have a more detailed announcement in the upcoming weeks.
Integrity Awards: The integrity award selection committee has proposed that our winners for the 2019 Rotary Integrity awards are Tolland Cochrane (male winner) and Gloria DeJong (female winner). If you have any concerns with the individuals being proposed, please contact Dawn as soon as possible.
Charter Night: Lisa: A sign up sheet is being circulated for attendance. Elks Hall & caterer have been booked. Invites are printed and ready to be sent out. Starts at 5:30pm, Sunday April 28, 2019. Bruce is looking after liquor and licence. Loretta and her mom will be bartending.
Garage Sale Breakfast Celebration: Sign-up sheet will be passed around-for Thursday, April 18th.
Battle River Music Society- Funding request - We were approached by the Battle River Music Society for financial support for the Come by the Hills music festival, which happens at Mistahya in August. After discussion, the executive have decided that we are not recommending any financial support to the music festival this year. We feel that this does not directly support our mandate, and that the type of sponsorship that they are looking for is more in the higher dollar figure and corporate sponsor range. We have donated previously - last year we gave $100 - but it is not a regular budget item. We would encourage Rotarians who are interested in supporting the music festival to consider volunteering.
Friends of Vermilion Regional Centre-Funding Request - Leanne Martin came to present on March 21st on behalf of the Friends of Vermilion Regional Centre about the plans to redo the floor in the secondary dance room. The concern with the current flooring is that it has no spring and is quite hard on the dancers. To combat this, the regional centre has been laying down mats in that room during dance season, but this limits the ability to rent the space out for other events, such as birthday parties. The mats are nearing the end of their lifespan, and the Friends are hoping to fundraise and raise through grants the cost to replace the floor with something more suitable. As there is a room partition, they may also have to deal with some adjustments for this if the floor height changes. At the executive, we had some discussion regarding the request, as well as some follow-up questions that are being compiled to send to Leanne. We also determined that this request should properly form part of the Budget Discussions for next years incoming executive.
Discussion: Do we have funds in this years budget? It is hard at this time of year to know because we don’t know the amount of revenue that we will raise from our (3) spring fundraisers. What is the projects timeline? What is coming from Town? Would like to see a more specific budget as estimated costs vary a lot. How much do they need to fundraise? It can be difficult to know, they may need fundraising commitment dollars to apply for some grants. They are hoping to get ½ from grants. It does seem a worthy project, fits with mandate, keeps Regional Centre current. We will be looking for more info to make a decision. If there are other questions about the project that you didn’t get a chance to ask in the meeting, please let Rebekah know so that they can be include in the list send to Leanne.
Garage Sale: Brenda: Sign-up sheet is being circulated. We need Rotarians to sign up to work with and be in attendance with the volunteers from the youth organizations that are coming. This morning St. J. students will be coming to help with moving and set-up of tables. There is a floor plan (by D’arcy White) to help with table placement and table count. The VDA volunteers will be coming 5-7pm today to unload and process the stashes that were picked up Saturday. Getting lots of calls for information and pick-ups- 18 pick-ups so far for Saturday, as well as three full trailer. Saturday we open for receiving from 10-3 pm. Pick-up crews will meet at 9am. We seem a wee bit short of muscle power for Saturday and Monday. If you haven’t signed -up, please do, or come when you can.
