Volunteer Hour Binder is being circulated. Please be sure to update with your hours from Garage Sale.
Charter Night is Sunday, April 28th-Set-up is 2:30pm at the Elk’s Hall and begins at 5:30pm.
Accelerating our Community-May 9th-Economic Development is hosting a breakfast with the Mayor at 7:00am. We will have no regular meeting and you are encouraged to attend this breakfast instead. Cost is $20+GST. There is a sign-up sheet being circulated or you can get tickets on Eventbright or from the Town Office. --Not sure if we will be asked/requirement to greet.
Off-site Meeting-May 30th will be at the Craig’s Cornerstone. MaryLee has made arrangements. Please sign-up if you will be attending so she knows breakfast numbers.
Heritage Park Funding-We have been asked by Keri Pullyblank who is doing the grand application for the Heritage Park funding, if we can change our timeline for the donation so they have the funds in hand for May 15th when they submit the grant application. Initially when we were approached for donation, they indicated they wouldn’t need the funds before September, as therefore our motion stated the funds would come from next years budget. The club is in a financial position to make the donation right away.
Motion by Eugene, seconded by Darlene. Vermilion Rotary will make the donation of $5000 to the Heritage Park in this financial year. All in Favor.
Canada Flag Project-Craig-The Canada Flag video is up on social media, please share. We already have 40 flags sold, 5 are new and 1 is gifted. This a great feel good project for the community. People want to be involved and show their Canadian pride. Many see this as a bargain at $60- to have a flag up for each of the four summer long weekends.
We are looking at other ways we can get out into the community to get flag ordered. We will be having a table up at each grocery store. McDonald’s is letting us set-up on a Tuesday from 10-5pm. We will also set-up a table at the Co-op (Tuesday or Saturday). Craig will send out an email with more information and shifts. Phoning can work for people who have previously ordered flags and their info is in our data system. Part of phoning must include the follow-up of collecting payment as well. There is a paper form available. Mike Webb and MaryLee have created a solid database and spreadsheets of customer information. Mike Webb (and Scott) have said that either Webb’s locations can be used as a point of contact.
Ultimately, we will need to canvas and knock on doors. It is not to early to start canvassing. All those that have had flags before will most likely take a flag again.
It was with intent that this project not primarily draw on businesses as they are often asked to support our community in so many ways. There is also the logistics of stores not having ground to plant a flag. However if a business asks for a flag, to support and show pride, then we will accommodate.
We have a few select rural areas where Rotarians live that have flags- Scott Webb’s route, Indian Lake, and Cloverview. There maybe some potential for a Mannville run. Owner of 881 Store has spoken with Craig about having Mannville flags stored in his sea-can and they may possibly have their own volunteers that would set-up and take down.
Right now we need to focus on selling and collecting the money. This is a great project because all the money is collected upfront, cash in the bank before the flags are delivered.. There are very little expenses this year. We are getting positive feedback; can see that there is demand and potential to see all 400 flags sold..
Sergeant’s Report: Reminder- Sunday is Charter Night. We are celebrating 64 years. There will be supper, entertainment, visiting with Rotarians, Honorary members, and past award winners.
