Purple Pinkie- Today is the day our Rotary volunteers go to the schools to raise awareness and donations for Polio.  A bit of information about Polio: The focus on immunizing is for children 5 and under.  The 1st Rotary campaign was in 1979 in the Philippines.  In 1994, just 9 years later, polio was eliminated in South and Central America.  In 1988, there was 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries; now, in 2017, there is 17 cases in 2 countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan).
There is much truth in that we are not done. We have to keep vigilant as it can resurge.  If all efforts stopped, it is estimated there would be 200,000 cases within 10 years.  We must continue to immunize.
9am – VES; 10am St. J; 11am – Outreach; 11:45am - JRR

Harvest Gala- November of this year.  Looking for a focus project to tie to event.  Shawn will be talking with Friends of Health Care and also a suggestion was made to talk with Town about new ice plant fundraising.

Vocational: Laurel (This is rather weird re-capping my own vocational): I learned as a teenager, to make balloon animals as a lifeguard when putting on birthday parties at the pool and have used that skill many times over the years.   I took my Recreation degree at Red Deer College and Acadia University.  After not finding a job, I went back to college at LLC and took Accounting.  I started as receptionist at Webb’s Machinery in 2004, customer service is an important part of my job and I enjoy helping and taking part in the events that Webb’s does.  On our acreage, the whole family helps with the wood business & raising the chickens & turkeys.  Now that the boys are away at university, I find there is more time for ME to decide what I want to do, so I am looking forward to some new beginnings and working on the acreage.
