Car Flags: Janine
It has been difficult the last year or so to get involvement for a Rotary float in the parade. Janine has followed up and looked into Car Flags as a way to advertise instead of having a float. These car flags would be for Rotary members and other organizations that we support who have floats in the parade. Janine has found Y’s Marketing out of Lloydminster who has given us flag design options, different size options and pricing. The minimum order is 12; $5.82 per the 12x15 flag, set-up fee is $65, GST and Freight are additional. MOTION by Janine: To spend $300 on the purchase of 24 car flags (12’x15’). Seconded by Dawn. Motion carried.
Discussion: We can see if there is interest for individuals for purchase their own flag. A quantity of 24 seems like a good number to start with. Flags are suitable for town driving, not sure how they would fare on the highway. How are they to clean? Other ideas or ways to use flags would be during Canada Flag routes, Fair time in general, garage sale-pick-ups. There had been $200 in the budget for parade float but we needed a new motion to re-appropriate funds.
Funding Request: Roots of Empathy: Rebekah
Executive received a letter for assistance in funding from “Roots of Empathy”. Executive recommends that we invite Sharleen or someone from the program to speak in February and be able to give more information.
Financial Update: Eugene
- In the last year or so there has been some change to our cash flow . The funds have gone out at the beginning of the year and come in at the end of the year (Spring-Garage Sale & Canada Flags). In December we had a $7000 term deposit come due. Because of the cash flow, we have had to use it to cover expenses. The $7000 will be allocated back when we have income.
- Invoices for meals and dues will be coming up in the next week or two.
- We have some funding expenses coming up under New Generations. Jim Smith Memorial (curling), Vipers, Community in Bloom, Shelter Box , Minor Ball, Canada Day, RYLE, RYPEN, Adventure Camps. We have requested that the organizations invoice us to reduce confusion when boards switch-over.
- We have $61000 in GIC’s (after the $7000). We have committed up to $20,000 for the accessible playground project.
- Fees for District 5370 & 5360 Rotary Curling Bonspiel are coming up. The bonspiel is in Lethbridge, Feb. 28th. We have a team going. As an aside: Maybe we should consider hosting again. Our cost of hosting can be much less than city costs.
- There was a surplus from 2017-2018 of $18,000. Forecasting a surplus of $5000 for 2018-2019.
Presentation to Dawn Riley, her Paul Harris Plus 4. Congratulations!
No Sargent Report: A past project was helping fund the starting blocks for the Vermilion Vipers. You are fined if you are not wearing your badge. Also, if you would like to feel sorry for me (Loretta) that I have had three flat tires this week, you can give.
